DD received envelope on Friday, got into GEP. In a way feeling relieved as we (and others who have interacted with her) have always felt that spark in her since very young, but if she had been streamed based on her SA2 exam results, may not have ended up in strong top class. DD seems a little dsylexic - working can get the right answer, when statement is copied, the numbers flip and its 1/2 wrong. For a sum of 4 digits, she can end up adding the Ones and Tens column, but suddenly decide to minus the Hundreds and Thousands column. English, correcting the passages with spelling errors is a complete nightmare. Yet for ICAS-type exams, end up with High Ds, reads voraciously, remembers facts after reading once and sometimes in a world of her own.

Any parents out there with kids who display similar behaviours?
Yet, in another way, feeling concerned about being whether DD is then able to cope, the reported lack of amount of time schools spend to prep for PSLE, and the results thereafter...

Hi my child who is in GEP have the same dsylexic problem as your child. The father is also dsylexic. Please have a doctor to check it. My child did not have any major problem in GEP although being dsylexic, and is still taking HCL. Just let the teachers know if verified by the doctor.

Although the same problem you mention still happens in test and exam from time to time 🙂

ooioo,
thank you so much, a relief to hear no major problems! HCL, amazing! DD's a leftie, chinese characters are, well, occasionally flipped. definitely not considering HCL here 🦆
will consider bringing her to a doc soon. What area of specialization? Pd's to refer?
No problem 🙂
Many GEPpers are 2e some even 3e (meaning 2exceptions or more), so a child may be Gifted and have Dyslexia.
Best to bring her down to KK Hospital Child Development or DAS http://www.das.org.sg quickly for an assessment.
If she is really positive, then IMHO you totally do not have to worry about GEP. Your girls brain is already rewiring itself, and wIth additional help, she will learn to over come Dyslexia even faster, eventually and able to learn at a much more faster pace than now; your have been running a marathon while carrying a 10kg weight yet she is among the front runners, imagine what happens if she is freed of those heavy shackles?
One advantage of being positive is we constantly have to solve puzzle even for simple task like reading, putting jumble words together to form meanings, thus we learn to look at things quickly from diff perspective and angles, it helps a lot when doing some math problems, especially those with diagrams as we see from many angles immediately.

I was thinking that if have not receive means not selected.

You means not a single student from this school was selected?

None out of the 5 in class receive news. Not too sure about the school though seems that there is no announcement.

Canvas:

At least one other school i know, did not receive any notification. I presumed since DS did not receive anything (including the rejection letter) means maybe his school hasn't too?

Canvas,

That will makes us on the same \"boat\" for now then ! 😄

Hopefully, both Tuppy n Canvas will rec good news today. Looking forward to that.

By now, all schools should get the letter. Perhaps the kids never get in, school chose to be silence. That happened in the other schools.

All the GEP 1st round qualifier didn’t even know who went in last year. Until early this this at P4, they were told that this boy transferred out for GEP programme. The letters were also distributed early this year at P4.
