Was quite upset when I read ST forum today.
People are commenting maids lifestyle are better because they have laws to protect them yet still being cynical towards employers and commented that employers should do some reflection and treat the maids better :x :x :x :x
Seriously wondering if the writer is an employer :x :x
I think if the needle doesn't prick him, he doesn't know the pain :x :x
When will there be laws to protect employers like us????
NEVER and I don't think there will ever be :x :x
There are always people who do not understand what kind of terrible maids employers can get. How to treat the maids better ? Share our salmon and bird nest with them ? Let them sleep in our master bedroom ?
I just published this sad story about a maid who went crazy and cost the employer $10K medical fees :

Thx so much for sharing.
Thank God the maid did not do anything stupid with the employer's kids in her state.
For me, I will continue to uphold these 2 conditions ie no h/p and no off days if my current maid (already considered quite gd) wants to renew her contract next yr. If not, then too bad.
At the same time, I cannot assume that I will be lucky twice. After reading thru this thread and going thru your blog Tamarind, I really have to bring out all my super alert senses (like 10x) with regards to the new maid. -

Tamarind, I am shocked at this maid's behaviour. Is there no redress for us aggrieved employers?

Andaiz,
don’t think employers can avoid such risks unless we don’t hire at all or MOM decides to do something to help us, which is don’t know when??
This filipino maid incident reinforce my belief that filipino maids will not be under my consideration for hire. I also agree with my friend that they don’t deserve higher salary than other nationality.
The good filipino maids will just finish 2 years contract and go to Nordic countries to work. I don’t have any friends who has filipino maids who work 4 years or more for them. -

The fact is that there is NO redress for aggrieved employers. Count ourselves lucky when our family members are unharmed.
We have all heard of many cases of maids abusing and killing babies, kids and elderly right ? Have we heard of any maid being executed ? The last case was Flor Contemplacion, executed in 1995 for murdering her employer's son. Since then, I don't remember that there were any maids being executed, they could always find some reasons like employers abused them blah blah blah and they get away with life sentences. -

Funny that you mentioned the Flor Contemplacion case. In my recent search for a maid, my first choice's hubby refused to let her come over coz he thinks that SG is a country where they hang maids! And this is not the first case I've heard of this being an excuse...

Still if this is the way MOM safeguards the helpers (and the PH embassy), we are truly at their mercy.
yep, peapot, the only way is to NOT have a helper. I'm just thinking when can I do that! -
Hi Andaiz,
I suppose you have a new helper now? How’s the new maid? Good? -

Maids get away because they have the embassy to support them. For any serious case, the embassies will exert pressure to ensure these maids, their citizens, get to go back to their home country, instead of being punished in Singapore. Nothing wrong with that because the embassies are protecting their own citizens. But for the poor Singaporeans who suffered or died in the hands of these maids,

That's why I say our gahmen should do something to protect our interests.
