Other than reading books, it will be good to start on reading newspaper.
Tks all for the advice! My daughter seldom reads...sigh......Happy Mama:
My P5 daughter failed badly for her English SA1 and SA2, esp her vocabulary sections. Is there a list of words that the students must knows? There are so many vocabulary assessment books and i don't know where to start from as there is not much time left. Can anyone help?tks!
My only advice to you is to get her to read more books. It really helps.
I used to doubt when people keep telling me that reading is the only way to improve English. Now, I've seen the actual proof in its benefits. DD used to score 80s for her Eng but since she started reading intensively this year, her Eng has improved to 95 marks for this SA2. It is no overnight miracle. It took her 9 months to see the results.
By the way, DD is Pri 4 this year and going on to Pri 5 in 2013. -

Hi, parents of PSLE 2013. Do you all start to prepare your DC for their PSLE? According to my DD tutor, it is better to start early before next year, as once the school reopen in 2013, the teacher will rush through the P6 topic like mad. So, try to concentrate on your DC weak point during this holiday.
Yup. Got to start now. -

I think it is good to get your child to choose books that he/she likes to read.
Hi Jedamum, she chose her own storybooks, all from the school library. She told me she loves most of the books in her school library and whenever she has extra time during recess, she will pop in the library and read her book on the couch.. She loves the library cos there's aircon and she can chill there.jedamum:
Happy mama
how do u encourage your girl to read intensively?
do u set a dateline? let her pick her books weekly? set aside a timing for book reading?
TQ>
DD also reads after I drop her in school and when I fetch her from school, she's also reading while waiting for me. I don't set a timing for book reading but she'll start reading the moment she finishes her homework and after her play time. She'll also read in between advertisements while watching TV.
I think it is important to get our kids to choose books that they like. It need not be those thick books... even simple books like Mr Mystery and Mr Midnight has helped DD, in terms of creativity. -
I am looking for a science tutor for my DS. Any recommendation? I stay around the bukit batok/hillview area.

Hi, Iβm new to the forum.
My DS is weak both in English & Chinese. I know that reading newspaper can help but may I know how to choose articles from the newspaper? My DS donβt read Strait Times nor LianHeZhaoBao articles, found is a bit difficult to understand from it. Is Little Red Dot and Big Thumb available in school holiday? -
I agreed that we should start schedule our dc for tuition during school holidays. It will benefit them especially for those who are a bit slow learners. This is the time they can learn without stress. For my dd her tutor already started to coach her in november.
