Hi, parents of PSLE 2013. Do you all start to prepare your DC for their PSLE? According to my DD tutor, it is better to start early before next year, as once the school reopen in 2013, the teacher will rush through the P6 topic like mad. So, try to concentrate on your DC weak point during this holiday.

          Yup. Got to start now.

            Happy mama

how do u encourage your girl to read intensively?
do u set a dateline? let her pick her books weekly? set aside a timing for book reading?
            TQ>

Hi Jedamum, she chose her own storybooks, all from the school library. She told me she loves most of the books in her school library and whenever she has extra time during recess, she will pop in the library and read her book on the couch.. She loves the library cos there's aircon and she can chill there. πŸ˜‚

DD also reads after I drop her in school and when I fetch her from school, she's also reading while waiting for me. I don't set a timing for book reading but she'll start reading the moment she finishes her homework and after her play time. She'll also read in between advertisements while watching TV.

I think it is important to get our kids to choose books that they like. It need not be those thick books... even simple books like Mr Mystery and Mr Midnight has helped DD, in terms of creativity.

I think it is good to get your child to choose books that he/she likes to read.

Hi, I’m new to the forum.

My DS is weak both in English & Chinese. I know that reading newspaper can help but may I know how to choose articles from the newspaper? My DS don’t read Strait Times nor LianHeZhaoBao articles, found is a bit difficult to understand from it. Is Little Red Dot and Big Thumb available in school holiday?

I agreed that we should start schedule our dc for tuition during school holidays. It will benefit them especially for those who are a bit slow learners. This is the time they can learn without stress. For my dd her tutor already started to coach her in november.

Hi! Welcome to the forum! I choose articles that my kid may be interested in - just so that she is exposed to grammatically sound writings. An example is an article recently about wedding busters rescuing child brides in Bangladesh. As child brides are around her age, she can empathise with their situation. Another one I picked some time ago was a write-up about legoland - as she loves theme parks, that article appealed to her too. So if your child likes soccer, or is crazy over gadgets - get him to read such write-ups. It doesn't have to be dry, uninteresting news which we ourselves also tend to gloss over.

Our school doesn't have little red dot, and I understand that it is only available through school subscriptions. I've heard of big thumb but have never laid hands on a copy before. I do know that they are being sold at most buzz pods - perhaps u could enquire at one of the outlets?

P/s I don't do that for Chinese though, as I myself read the articles at an excruciatingly slow pace. πŸ˜“ So we just contend ourselves with zhi Shi bao.

                      Hi

Im looking for math tutor urgently. My DS usually score 80 for the math but 66 for this year. Am very worried and hoping that the tutor can provide intensive revision for her P5 work before starting of p6. Anyone have good recommendation??

As a working parent, it is real tough to monitor the kid homework and work at the same time esp have to work late most of the time.
