Hey, just checking, will your dc follow their friends to the same sec school (peer pressure)? Do they discuss which sec school that they want to go in, together?

Yeah. Last year all my primary school classmates decided on going to ACSI together. Somehow their decision soon gave way because they did not have enough marks for their PSLE to get in.

It's very normal. Most of them just want to have friends when they walk into a new school.

Hi Ichigokun, so you are in sec 1 now? which sec sch did you go to? was that a good choice, in your own opinion?

Now waiting for the PSLE results to be out on 22 Nov. By knowing the actual T score will able us to know which schools we can apply. Still can’t decide between IP or O level track. Maybe wait for the results first & decide later.

Sama sama...have to wait for results to decide 🤷 . Cannot do anything...although mapped out some possible schools based on distance and son's character. First 2 choices very important. But O level track is confirmed.

                Drama Mama:
                pecalis:

I asked as my aunt wanted her son to go NA in St Hildas but his score was 20+ and she said no option to go NA. Told her to go MOE and ask for special provision but I believe she din do that. This was many yrs ago.

Another niece had 19+ last yr and parents opted for NA instead of Exp for her in a gd sec sch in the east. She's doing very well - top in class and hoping to transfer to Exp next yr but i believe she'll struggle as her overall % is just slightly more than 70 instead of 80%. I told her NA pace is more suitable for her and so what if she needs 5 yrs instead of 4 yrs to complete her O levels. Age no longer matter when you are in uni, as i realised i have classmates who repeated o or a levels, some are from poly and the guys have to serve 2 yrs in the army... I thot I saw the sparkle in her eyes!

Pecalis, tt is very good advice for your niece. There is really no hurry to complete O levels. Best is for kids to do it at a pace most suited for them and enjoy studying.

SG education weighs so heavily on Math and Science. Know of people who didn't do well in Pri and Sec...last time the system got kids repeating pri school. They did well enough to get into JC eventually...JJC, IIRC. AT our time, JJC was like right at the bottom. I remember they couldn't even speak grammatically correct English then. But they eventually got to do the subjects they can do well in....not maths and sce stuff...and got into Accountancy and grad with a better degree than many of us!!!

That's why I always ask my kids to experience more and not 'corner' themselves just because they are better in Math and science. If they just chase after the pack, they will never find out what they are truly good in.

With affiliation means Band results not accurate. Need to remove the weaker affiliation students results to compare same thing. My DS left Ngee Ann 2 years ago got 7 As and in Meridien JC going to finish A level. No affiliation for her with her 240 score. The teachers are good and environment very good with newly renovated facilities. Hope my younger DS can get in. Praying hard for results to go >235 on Thurs.
