Yes, Imami is right !Puzz...zzle:
what is GIE? how to enrol in this progrm? base on SA2 result?
Gie = gifted in English. Lp's \"higher level\"/high achiever's class. I believe they would still want to assess the kid, even if the sa2 result is excellent.
LP still need to assess your (P4 to P6) child for their English / Maths programme - even if your child comes from one of those nine GEP centres (NYPS, HPPS, RGPS, Tao Nan, Nan Hua, Catholic High, Rosyth, St Hilda, ACS Barker)
i asked teacher - why not make it an automatic entry into GIE, since they are already GEPpers ? They don't base on SA2 results.
Reply was -
because there're some GEPpers who got selected for (P4 - P6) GEP programme who may be strong in Maths, but weak in English, or vice versa.
It does't mean that all GEPpers from (P4 - P6) are strong in both English and Maths. So LP will still need to assess them, be it the child take LP English or Maths program. -

yes, a gifted kid may not be an all rounded kid. Gie, as it's name suggest, caters for those with strong English foundation and there is capable of a higher standard.

Just thinking aloud… For some centres like TAS, they allow a child who is advanced to go one level higher, for example p1 attend p2 class… I understand that learning point does not allow such skip levels in the past, maybe that’s why they have the gifted program now for advanced kids…
Do u think there is a difference in the 2 approaches, and if your child is quite advanced, which approach would u prefer I.e attend one level up or attend more advanced class in the same level? -

is there any 2013 K2 child (born 2007) by now still encounter problem trying to read ?
if Yes, Thomson Plaza starting new course commencing January 2013 to help this group of kids. But is going to be twice a week commitment. Thus, you need to stay committed to bring your child down, twice a week. They're trying to recruit pupils now.
This means the entire 8 module (for whole year) will cover :-
from Jan - June 2013: focus on phonics, reading.
from July - mid Nov 2013: become \"P1 Headstart\", ie. cover grammar, compreh, basic compo writing skills.
when enter P1 nowadays -
the primary school teachers are not going to teach your child How to read, nor going to teach your child phonics.
They expect your child to be able to read.
If your child can't read, school will send them to attend LSP (Learning Support program).
