At end of P4, they can choose to take CL or HCL. School will recommend, but parent’s choice ultimately. No additional points for HCL at PSLE unless child goes to SAP schools. Then add 1 point fir pass, 2 points for merit and 3 points for distinction. I believe the standard of the children in P6 will be relatively good, whether in HCL or CL.

nonkiasu - Gabby mentioned earlier that HA is High Ability and MA is Middle Ability. Heard HA is from C-G and remaining are MA. The classes are not ranked from good to bad, more of random like if top 5 students in that level, they are split to C, D, E, F, G and then the 6th top student goes to C again and so on. So your 3 DS all went to HA classes?

My DS’ performance dropped in Sem 2, overall results are still ok to go into HA class but can’t imagine next year where most kids likely drop one grade coz p2-3 is a big jump. 😮

Gabby, thanks for sharing! The part that you mentioned add 1 point for pass, 2 points for merit, and 3 points for distinction, this is for what? PSLE or entry to go SAP secondary school?

Is your DS going to HA or MA class?

When the child gets his PSLE T score, the HCL points are not added. But if he opts for a SAP school, he gains the extra points. Matters for those who needs the 1 - 2 points to get into the school.

I dont know which are the HA classes. 2 or 3 classes?

Did they change the name of the classes?

I just want my DS to have a good environment. Good class will be a bonus. My DS says teacher told them all the classes are good, which I think is nice of her. Morale is very important for children.

              Hi all,

My DS gg to b P1 nxt yr. Actual fact after listening to d P's Speech of cramming 2000 chn words in just 2yrs... Start hving regrets & worries into enrolling to PCS.
As much as i love its strong chn culture, i wd still like DS to hv a fun enjoyable route in his fundamental yrs.... Now am so so worry tat d ultimate chn prog may dampen his confidence.... 左右为难
I would say apart from the CL programme, my son likes most of the things in school. He has friends and thinks most of the teachers are wonderful.

I dont think I am very kiasu, but definitely a concerned parent. I had to be with my DS in his Chinese studies all the way. He doesnt have tuition, mainly because I dont have time to send him. We sent him for Berries once a week, Berries pegged themselves slightly higher on the MOE CL syllabus, however it is still doesnt match what pcs has.

              I find it difficult because
              1) the vocab list is extensive, my eyes literally popped in P2 as I studied with DS unit to unit
              2) assessment books does not compliment syllabus, you can still use them for listening, oral and composition
              3) those top school papers are all based on MOE syllabus

which means I dont know how to revise vocab with my DS for his written test. I just try to cover as much with him as possible, and hope he retains what he can remembers.

There is a need to focus on English and Maths too as the difficulty goes up when they get promoted. Ultimately, you have to know what's important to you and manage the stress for the chid as well as for yourself.

Gabby, HA is 3C to 3G, the rest are MA classes.

Are you a FTWM? How do you find time to coach CL then? DS’ CL teacher is very on and thanks to her, the class does well generally. But can be very stressful too when she gives huge load of work (sometimes very last min) for working parents.

Gabby, I am a FTWM too. Usually cook dinner after fetching DS home, then we eat and he does his HW, then I wash dishes, shower and check his work. DS goes to student care in the am. Am happy next year onwards is AM session and hopefully he can finish his work in SC!

My DS will be in 3D next year. 🙂
