If they are truly that passionate, they will not be so easily defeated. For their motivation will not be parents’ opinion but the impact that they can have on their students.

Teachers leaving to join private tuition may not be due to demanding parents. They will still meet demanding parents in the tuition industry.

I noticed the language teachers tend to be more passionate. I noticed it during my time, and now, my kid's time.

This is not so for my ds, whose CL teacher happens to be his form teacher too. She has effectively killed all, if any, of ds' interest in learning CL. Luckily, I've got a patient tutor for my son who is able to rekindle his interest in CL. Otherwise, my son will end up like my dh, who barely scrap thru at exams & dislikes learning CL, when young.

My son’s CL teacher did go through a lot with the class…like extra oral practice, useful worksheets. She also gave useful tips for LC. She has been most wonderful…even my son was grateful for all the oral practices done before PSLE.

just hope that more passionate teachers could join the force..

I am only concerned with those who joined the teaching profession simply because they think it is a iron rice bowl, especially in the current uncertainty in the market and private sector.

That's not true. Teaching is not an iron rice bowl.

                  Teachers are graded - A, B, C, D, E.

A and B are usually reserved for the top position people.

                  C,D,E are for teachers.

For meeting the minimum requirement, teachers are graded between C+ to C-.

Those who get D will be monitored very closely...

Those who get E will have about 1 year plus of chance and if improvement is still not seen, the officer will be asked to leave.

Then again, as I've always told my friends. Some teachers teach very well yet they get a D grade simply because they didn't initiate any projects that bring huge impact at the school or zonal level...

Some extraordinary teachers scored a B- could be those who did something very major e.g. bring up the school's reputation. But the same teachers could be those whose pupils are flunking their exams.

Then again, those who scored very good grades could also mean they initiated projects AND teach well.

Anyway, you need to be IN the service to know absolutely well why why why... blah blah blah... such a thing is happening etc.

You can be passionate but when whatever you've planned always do not go accordingly due to factors not within your control... how long can you last?
Sooner or later, you'll be immuned and numb or else you can go crazy and end up in ***.
fyi, MOE has those \"Reignite your passion\" kind of workshops.
If the passion can stay alive by itself despite all the hammering, why would there be need for such workshops?

I noticed my kids got good CL teachers too…

But some EL teacher just cannot make it… like bo chap type… and don’t bother to guide weaker students while CL teachers tends to be more patience and willing to spend more effort with the weaker students.

i agree with you totally...my son had caring CL teachers in his 6 years of primary school...last year P5 and this year especially. i am so thankful for them. they really go the extra mile by giving helpful notes for oral and also stimulate kids' interest in chinese.

I agree. Sometimes the teachers just dont care, because its just a job to them and its not their own kids.
