      grapevine:
Hi. Just chanced upon this thread. Can you tell me more about seimpi school of music. My kid turns 2 in August. Am looking to enroll him in music classes as he loves music. Thanks.

Hi Grapevine, Seimpi has music appreciation classes for kids 1 year old up. Some components of their MIM program are similar to the Kindermusik kind, which focuses on moving with the music, differentiating between loud & soft, quick & slow, start & stop etc. There are also many flash cards, which teaches the kids on various musical terms, notes reading. The kids also get to play around with shakers, drums, triangles, and xylophones. By about 2-3 years old, the lessons will start to expose them to keyboard playing.

The MIM program takes about 2-3 years, and finishes off with the kid being able to play the piano with both hands, simple melody on right hand and accompanied with simple left hand chords. After that, the kid can move on to individual classes. Depending on the capability of the kid, the teacher may recommend the child to go for a SMART audition. The SMART program is a \"gifted\" program for the school, with their best students selected in that program. Each year, they probably select between 5 to 10 students into the program, which allow them to do two grades per year. These kids also attend regular aural and musicianship training. There are many opportunities to perform in this school as there are at least four concerts in a year.

Having said that, the school does not by itself create geniuses out of every child. It depends a lot on the inclination of the child, and how much effort is put in. There are also variations in quality of teachers in the school.

Above just my two cents worth.

Hi everyone, kindly share with me what are the various music programmes that your kids are attending now? Apparently my kids love music, or maybe I think they are, hahah.

        Please share, cheers! 😉

          Hi,

I am trying to figure out which instrument is the best for my 7 year old child to try. I am concerned about cost, availability of instructors, access for further education, and just plain with her ability to learn some music.
Any suggestions to compare and contrast these instruments: piano, violin, flute, ukulele, etc? If you have already done such research in the past, I would be thankful if you can share with me as well.

You can try Kindermusik or Yamaha Apple course.

Hi, yes my kids are with Seimpi. Found their program pretty good, at least I saw some results in my DD. They use flash cards as part of their teaching aid, this enables the child to learn sight reading very early. Also includes aural training for the child, which is very beneficial in becoming an all round musician.

                        Hi phankao,

Just saw your replies. Wow, it’s been some time. Can share with me which school your son is learning at? Thanks. I have yet to enrol my girl in any school as she keeps falling sick since she starts childcare this year but is getting better now, so considering to send her to enrichment now…
