On the subject of the school hours, can anyone share their child’s experience and why the HMT from P3 onwards starts after school? I thought in other schools, the HMT are taught during the normal school hours?
If the child needs to stay back for HMT and other schools’ children do not, would this not put the Yangzheng’s children at a great disadvantage at the national level since they have so much lesser time for revision and on other subjects.
Could the school admin explain why Yangzheng Pri Sch is so different from how other schools in the hours allocated in conducting the HMT. -
My boy had to stay back for HMT in P5 and P6 when he was studying that in a SAP primary school previously. That was after the ‘streaming’ when they had to qualify and choose to take HMT after P4. Before that, the whole cohort takes HMT and therefore all Chinese lessons are undifferentiated and conducted during normal lesson time.
At P3, there isn’t really too much more material to cover, so there shouldn’t be too much invasion into revision time actually. More like rest and play time. The real crunch comes in when the child goes to higher primary. -
Actually my main worry on Chinese is the way it’s being taught and who’s teaching it. My boy had a rather senior HMT teacher at P5 and P6 who had not been able to invoke much interest in the language amongst the class during that time. In fact, the stint seemed to have killed whatever remnant interest he had in the language/subject.
I met the teacher who’s teaching HMT at higher primary levels in Yangzheng during one of the Learning Fiesta workshops, and I’m totally relieved. That is, IF my child does get to study HMT eventually, I’m assured that she’s one good quality teacher I can count on. I’m glad Yangzheng has her on board. I’d trust the school to make the best arrangements for lesson time, with pupils’ interests in mind. -
Thank you for sharing.
Somehow, I heard from most friends that their children’s school do HMT during the normal school hours. If the child has to come back from school at 3+ to 4+ everyday, I believe the child feels stretched, let alone have time to revise for other subjects and homework.
Does your boy’s primary school require them to stay back everyday till such late hours for HMT?
While we may want to trust the school in doing things with the best interest for the child, it’s quite hard to ignore hard facts. I cannot quite understand why most other schools are able to do certain things that better benefits the children compared to what Yangzheng is doing for its children. I am still hoping to hear from the school administration on this matter.
Could the school administration kindly inform why the need to conduct HMT beyond the normal school hours while most other schools could achieve that without having to do so? -
hi
Is the book list supposed to be given out today together with the report book as stated in the letter to parents?
My girl received the report book n invitation slip for the prize giving day but not the book list. She said her teacher has not given the students the book list .
Anyone received the book list ?
Thks -
Chinese class horror story continue…I found out that many chinese books (compulsory books stated in booklist) were not used at all in P1 & P2. Eg. Xiao Yuan Le Fan Tian, Chinese listening comprehension, Chinese story books.

Oh, the new timing is atrocious. Some children would be lunching at 2+ by the time they reach home. So dinner at 7-8?? Sleep at 8.30?? (6-12 yrs old need 10-11hrs of sleep)
