Rulang Primary

According to what principal Cheryl shared with us last yr during the orientation, our PSLE students' total results are better than those schools that Rulang's students transfer over for GEP.
And what I've heard is that some students also req to trsf back to Rulang as they cant get use to the GEP. :siam:
Again, this is whether u are looking at the result or other things. As the education way is very different between GEP school and normal school.
But not for me to worry yet, my DDs still P.1 now. -
hi,
any kids in 1D next year? orientation on nov10… hohohohoho… -

Dear Lock and Marcolisa,marcolisa:
My son was selected for GEP. Anyone know how Rulang support those kids who get into GEP but decide to stay?
My DS got into GEP too. What class is ur son in? I am still undecided. May I know the reason for staying on in Rulang? Do u know how many in Rulang got into GEP?
Congrats to your kids getting into GEP !
Two years ago, I attended their annual alumni dinner. The principal mentioned that for those GEP students who did not want to transfer out, Rulang pays for their education up till P6. But again, you may want to check with the principal again. -
Dear all,
New to this thread. I am thinking to transfer my DS to Rulang for P4 next year. My DS also wish to transfer school. He passed GEP first round. He worked very hard, but still failed in the second round.
We are living in the west, but >2km from RL. Anyone know the critia of Rulang for school transfer? Do we need to meet the Principle or Ms Foo directly or just submit the application form and wait? When is Rulang considering the application?
Thanks for your help in advance. -

But GEP program is a good stretch for the kids. Wish that Rulang can hv the GEP program so the kid can stay. -
Need to prepare anything for tomorrow orientation?

Anybody here join the PSG? :hi5:

Hi All,
i’m curious on how the p4 classes are allocated in rulang. Anyone can share if best class still starts at 4H? how abt 4A - 4C? ar classes allocation based on math results too?
thanks. -
Classes are allocated based on overall results ie. counting ALL subjects. My son’s FT told them that 1st class is 4H, 2nd class 4G and 3rd is 4F. The rest are mixed ability.

what's \"mixed ability\"? How is 4A different from 4B, 4C, etc?? How does the school differentiate the rest of the group who does not make it to the top 3 classes? based on math results???eg. 4A - those better in Math? Will the school explain how they do it?
thanks. -

The P6 pupils stayed back every Thursday in Semester 1 for extra lessons. In semester 2,CCA stopped and all P6 pupils stayed back one extra day, Monday, for extra lessons. Mine is in second class so like starlight1968's child, did not stay back on other days. Which is good. I can teach him by myself. My DS's teacher was on MC very frequently so I had step in to teach him by myself. Was not surprised as I had a neighbour whose daughter was taught by the same teacher a few years ago and had the same feedback. My DS had much less work than his friends in first class. I hope there was slightly more but not as much as the first class. I guess it is difficult to have a balance. The teachers have to teach more than 40 pupils. As I was mentally prepared that I had to step in and be more active this year, I just sighed and chose the more challenging questions for him to do as I wanted him to have time to revise his work. Heard from my friends that their children in the first class hardly had time for revision. Always rushing work. Never believe that quantity will result in good results for all pupils. May work for some pupils but not all. For my DS, definitely not. A number of my friends have kids taking PSLE and some are in other schools. Many complain that the teachers piled them with other school prelim papers in August and September. The teachers would then just tell them to copy the answers. Is this teaching? I would rather the teachers select some questions and go through them in detail.I know that the top class pupils were given many papers until some fell ill. Sometimes,I wonder how these kids cope. From what I know, a number of them also have tuition. I asked my friend why nobody told the teacher to cut down. She said the kids were too afraid to say anything.

Like to find out more on the life of a P6 in Rulang. Hope some P6/ex-P6 parents can shed some light.
DD will be P6 next year. Heard that P6 gotta stay back at least 3 times a week. Is that right from the start of the year or nearer exam/PSLE? Do they still need to come back on Sat? Currently DD attends some tuition on weekdays & already time seemed tight. So I am looking at either dropping some or reshuffling to clear up her weekdays for more rest.
Hope to hear some feedback. Thank u.
I recalled kids would stay back during one of the days for extra lessons.
The form teacher has advised her students right from the start, to drop enrichment classes or tuition because her work would be enough to drown them
The form teacher would also purchase the past \"good\" school exam papers for the students to do. So parents, you may want to wait for a while before rushing to buy.
Most of the p6 topics would be covered around mid year. From term 3 onwards, most of the time would be spent on doing papers, worksheets and revision.
Hope it helps.
PSLE year is a challenging year. I think my DS has survived although results are not out yet. -
Can anybody advise whether we should opt for higher Chinese even the teacher recommend only 4S for P5 next year? I understand you need to have HMT for entry into certain secondary schools. Also can we opt out the next year if really can’t make it. Will it affect overall results?
Hope to hear some advise. Thank you. -

PSLE year is a challenging year. I think my DS has survived although results are not out yet.[/quote]Hi mumsobusy, thanks for the detailed feedback. I kinda know RL will give a lot of work cos' my P5 DD workload is similar to my P6 DS in another school. Just knew DD will be in first class next year, so trying to prep myself & DD.
IF we seriously feel that the workload is too much, can parents request to skip the easier ones (I guess kids will be frightened to voice out but fair enough, students should have some fear & respect towards teacher to avoid disciplinary issues) ? Have you come across any such cases before?
When my DD first transferred over to Rulang @P4, she was kinda overwhelmed initially. Cried a couple of times & during times she was sick, I would request for deadline extension. Think my action shock the existing parents cos seemingly its unheard. To me, sufficient rest is important. To get less sleep, tired etc for a short period is ok, not long term lor. If sick, homework is secondary....I'll ask dd to find time to complete when she is better. If any issue from teacher, let me know & I'll speak to teacher directly. So far, teachers have been understanding & no issue at all.
Guess I'll just have to adopt a wait-&-see attitude & adjust accordingly to the situation as it comes.
Thanks all for the feedback. -

Top score : 283
22% of PSLE students scored more than 250
11 pupils scored 270 and above
100% of pupils taking standard papers made it to Sec schools.
The source came from PSG FB.
I think Rulang did great ! I'm impressed. -

My gal transferred in P4 to RL together with another classmate. Both were top 10 in their previous Sch. Both were fortunate enough to be allocated to best class in RL. While my gal has managed to remain in best class & still top 10, her friend has dropped to 2nd class in P5 & almost into 3rd class.
For my gal, she has lost her leadership opportunities (was supposed to be a councillor in P4 in precious sch) as she had to start afresh. In addition, she was passed off in other areas cos unproven & not vocal enough. It was only in P5 was she being noticed.
I dun know about Xingnan, but RL is definitely of higher standard, more drilling, more stressful & more discipline than my gal's previous school. I have not compared between different classes in RL, so I can only speak of the top class.
My gal had looked forward for more challenges so RL was good for her but emotionally she did encountered some difficulty & required some adjustment. Fortunately she overcame them so no regrets in our case. However every child is different & what they will encounter will differ too. It's a decision only you & your son can make. So all the best to whatever you decide. -

You may refer to the orientation kit.. it mentioned somewhere to bring all subjects 1A textbook, etc.. cant really remember all the list.Dear Mummies,
Can you share what are the books which you are packing for your kids who are going to primary one? As during the Rulang's orientation, we are not provided with the time table.
Thank you.
