Before u write on this thread, pls do ur fact findings 1st.
Also, take this feedback constructively and NOT negatively !
You are in no position to hand out advice.
hmmm..... i can understand meekopeeko's position on such estimates as the school truly believes in \"holistic\" development and as such, do not release information that they deem to encourage competition(?) within the girls. In fact, unlike most school, we do not even know which class position that our gals had achieved in the year! Just fresh from the PTC and we are only given a broad range of her performance (eg, above average). Sigh... with such minimal info, how to be truly KSparent? So we have to extrapolate, interpolated and eventually pluck figures from the air to fit our internal model of where we think our girl is (whether lousy or good) . But this is life as a RGPS parent, but as was KSP says \"their 6yrs in RGPS will have a lifelong benefit for them\" and we have to leave it just that and accept things as it comes. Perhaps that is why we cannot do fact findings, because these are not available.
BTW, you mentioned that reputable schools has abt 5-20 GEP student, I have known for a fact that Pei Hwa has 24 selected for this year, out of which i think 19 from the top class. So there is no question abt it even though it is out of the statistic range. Out of curiousity, do you happen to know what is the number for RGPS this year? In case we are not accessing the \"fact\" properly.... -
Suku,
Thanks for your understanding. Actually the number I supplied is not plucked from the air. The counting done by some parent-friends and the counting done by girls offered GEP, tallies. The number Funz DD counted/heard tallies too. Today, the girls are all brought to meet their new classmates for 2013… And, it’s still the same number for GEP, and this is the second time they are all gathered in one place. It still is 20plus, closer to 30 cos we do not know who has gone off for a holiday or quit GEP. But there are confirmed 27 faces. My DD is one of them and she certainly can count. So, RGPS has done very well.
The numbers were shared in approximate numbers cos two people asked. One out of general concern, the other to gauge her daughter’s chances to be posted to RGPS GEP. I specified that these numbers were unofficial, twice, and explained why this is so (principal does not say).
If we cannot trust our parent-friends and we cannot trust our GEP girls to add simply from 1 to 30, and choose to trust a person who claims stats from last year that is similarly unannounced by rgps PLUS GEP averages of reputed schools that MOE will never release… That would be too gullible for words.
Not only so, I find it simply RUDE to that he/she would impersonate as one of us, and insinuate that RGPS can never do so well…ok, maybe I got a bit too "patriotic" haha. If this person is so keen to fact-find, then stick to official sources like MOE and school websites, why resort to kiasuparents?
Anyway, GEP is a superficial yardstick for how well a school has done, and so are PSLE results which are due soon. I have a bunch of mommy friends with P6 girls all waiting… Hopefully it will be a good year cos I know the girls have worked hard. Heard a few papers were not easy this year… But oh, this is unverified again cos well, I did not sit for them myself!
Suku, if u really want to know how your DD did, use the class and level averages on the exam and test scripts. It is actually a very useful and accurate tool…more useful than trying to read the facial expressions of teachers. If you want to know greater detail, for instance, what it takes to qualify for EF classes, you have to make some friends and ask around. Approximate figures have been mentioned many many times on this board.
Happy holidays! -

I attended a briefing by the P. She said RGPS averagely is able to form a GEP class from their own girls every year. That is 25+/-. So 27 is definitely in that band. -
Last day of school today. DD was happy yet sad. Happy that the holidays are here but at the same time sad that they will be going to different classes next year.
Dd said that of a class of 33, 13 are going to 4E/F while 4 made it to GEP. -

Yes the P is correct, 3 yrs back, my dds cohot had 26 or 27 that qualified for GEP.
Yes, there will always be desperate, envious parents who will never be satisfied from where they come frm and will stop at nothing to achieve their goals... such bad taste! and lack of confidence in themselves. I hv no respect for this type and would love to :pokeeye: -

No worries, she will get used to her new class. My dd was just as sad after P2 and kept moaning shes gonna miss her classmates. (we had streaming every 2 years then) she lost half her classmates. To date she switch classes 3 times and didnt bother after that
Anyway, its goodbye this time and shes getting a bit emotional cos her close friends wont be in the same sch. next yr. -
Funz:
Yes same here. My girl's classmates very cute, most of them forgot to exchange telephone numbers. Yesterday once my girl came home, the house phone has been ringing non-stop. A few of her classmates has our home number and has been sharing with the rest of the class...Last day of school today. DD was happy yet sad. Funz - does your P3 girl brew a bit of \"telephone porridge\" nowadays?
Mine does, which I realised only recently. Apparently according my to mum and helper, this has been happening for quite a while. Just that I am not aware. Only recently when I took leave, then I realise that she has been getting at lease 2 calls in the afternoon after coming back from school.... -
dd said they were formed to next year's class yesterday. She was happy and sad. Happy coz the naughty ones will not be in the her class next year :slapshead: :faint: and sad coz some of her good friends will be xfer to other classes.
from dd's sharp observation (more like kaypao to me) some P4E/F were in the P5G/H (for next year class). I'm just guessing that the order could be E-F-G-H-A-B-C-D. Well, that's only my speculation.
