Hi parents,
for those who are sending their children for swimming lessons at public pools, what are the rates you paying?
Thanks -
Swimtutor:
Hi! Can u share with us the reason for the difference in length of time to master swimming? Is there a \"best time\" (eg 5yo) to learn to swim?
Depending on the age. Here are some of my observation. To be able to swim at least a 10 meter without float/support..and 5 meter on your back.Twinklesss:
My 6yr old son after learning for 5mths, still don't really know how to breath without the board and need the swimming board.
is this normal? i was expecting him to know how to swim without the board...
age 2 to 4 years old: 8 months to a year
age 5 to 7 years old: 5 to 8 months
age 8 to 12 years old: 3 to 6 months.
So take this as your gauge. Thanks. -
My girl’s previous instructor: $120 for 8 lessons in a group of 8 kids.
Public Holiday-- got make up lesson.
MC/Rain–no make up lesson. -
So it is pretty std of $60 for 4 lessons
Thanks -
paithorn:
one hour per lesson? So it is pretty std of $60 for 4 lessons
Thanks -
Imami:
Yes I guess pretty standard $60 monthly , not 4 lessons..if you miss class it's consider 1 lesson so even if you attend 3 lessons for the month you still have to pay full.

Think have to be fair to the coaches cos if we go holiday, party , family function etc ...we can't expect the coaches to give us make up right?
Different coaches runs differently like some dun give any makeup even if it rain cos they its beyond their control!
So up to parents to decide whether to sign with that coach or not...best better ask and clear any doubts before signing up -

That is why the younger (usually below 4 years old) need more visual, instructional and guidance than the older one. Second reason could be the growth characteristic that for some reason is restricted to performing a task due to lack of strength /muscles (again... applied to lower age group only).

Thanks swim tutor. Your observation is accurate for my case. I learnt to swim at 8 YO (shy of 2 weeks, I would be 9 actually) and I could swim (breast stroke) within a few months.

I have an article on the development of motor skill of kids as explain by swim tutor in my blog at http://jeffswim.blogspot.sg/search?updated-max=2012-07-05T05:58:00-07:00&max-results=25
If interested parents can read it, chew it, spit out those rubbish and digest the good food...
