Hi, does NAFA require students to take all the theory exam grades? If not, how often, and what are the compulsory exams to take?

Any one knows what are the minimum qualifications of teachers in NAFA? Do they assign the better teachers to the higher grades students, or there are no differentiation?

Thinking of putting my child in NAFA, would appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

                  Hi Kathyh,
Does your child have chemistry with the teacher? How's the experience so far?

I find it kind of hard to quantify this, as chemistry is very subjective, and you never know until the child starts lessons with the teacher. Do you get to choose teachers in NAFA, or are there trial classes?

Maybe I should rephrase my question... does the same teacher follow through with a student from the lower grades all the way to the higher grades, or do they re-assign teachers for higher grade students?

                      Hi Kathyh,

Based on my experience, there is no trial class offered at NAFA. We also did not get to choose the teachers, they were assigned to us. However, it was mentioned at the orientation that we are allowed to request for ONE change of teacher but good reasons must be provided. My daughter started at grade 2 level with NAFA and we were told that the same teacher would follow her through all the way til diploma.

Having said that, I do notice that the younger teachers seem to take more prep students. I think it's because there tend to be a much higher number of prep and grade 1 students, compared to the higher grade. For example this year, there are like 20 grade 1 students but only 8 grade 2 students.

                      Hope this helps.

                        Sigh…

Well no doubt your kids may pick up good technique in piano, not now for violin anymore. Be prepared that your kids will be treated as a tool(chang ying pai) to help the school acheive their success in the whatever competitions. If your kids are not outstanding or a slow learner, do not even consider to admit them into the school, they will ask to leave only just one term there. Parents before register them, please consider whether do you prepare to spend 2-3 hours daily to sit beside your kids just to monitor their practice. If not my advise is not to hurt their self-esteem.

You may want to consider another music school (Forte Musicademy)which is setting up by 2 ex SYT teacher as they are willing to give every students a chance to grow. They even arrange for oversea trip to let their student to perform with orchestra.

The most important issue, your kids will be treated like a human.
