All About Choosing and Buying Pianos

Related to the post I've just posted above, with digital piano price (and advancement in the technology) you now have the option to get a new piano. I know many of us here, including me, do not have music background. And so here are the risks -- investing in an acoustic piano is a long term investment -- spending $10k or more for a new one or $5k or more for a second hand one (1) we don't really know our kid's interest will sustain going forward (2) we're choosing a product costing thousands of dollars without much knowledge about it.
According to dd's 1st piano teacher in Seimpi, she said digital piano is only suitable up to grade 3 & eventually need to upgrade to acoustic piano. So she advised us to get an acoustic piano.... although she is using a digital piano herself :evil:sleepy:
I thought people usually won't recommend buying of old piano.
If know how to choose & can 'hear' the quality of sound, then it's fine to buy old pianos.
For our case, with zero music background, gosh, very stressful because really no idea whether we would buy a lemon instead :nailbite: -
Hi
My son has been learning piano for a year. Last year, when he just started learning piano, I bought a Yamaha keyboard to let him practice. I did not decide to buy a piano then as I do not know whether he is really interested in playing the piano.
Lately, his piano teacher has requested that we buy one if he intends to go for piano exam. Hence I would like to buy a second hand yahama U1. Anyone intend to sell his piano?
Also, anyone interested to buy yahama keyboard?
Regards

Different people use digital piano for various reasons, could be space constraint, budget, portability, etc.
Just one question though, if digital pianos produce the sound from a recorded tone, then who actually makes the tone? Is the tone made by the pianist on the digital piano, or from the pianist from whom the tone is recorded from? :scratchhead:
If latter, then how do you control the tone you make on a digital piano? -
I am interested in buying a keyboard. What model is it?
-
The model of the yamaha is PSR-E323 .
It has a recording feature that able you to record and save up to five songs you played. The keyboard is also great for composing and practice purposes. -
I know someone who is selling a Yamaha LU101, made in Japan, with new Steinway strings and hammers. PM me if you are interested!

I'd imagine that depending on the quality (therefore costs), the recording and sampling and eventual playback would vary. And there's also the touch/feel factor of the keys. So, it's essential that we research a little bit, talk to different people who have the experience and the sales people, and more importantly to try it out ourselves.Different people use digital piano for various reasons, could be space constraint, budget, portability, etc.

I initially have preference for acoustic piano because I simply don't think digital piano can replicate it. But after trying out and listening to different people, I have now decided to get a new digital piano. -
BTW, there's a year end sales for casio digital piano. $300 off and free guitar or other freebies. See http://mypianosg.com for details.

Hi JeanS
I'm looking at this brand as well as my DD's piano teacher has recommended it. Did you buy it in the end? How's the performance? Thanks!JeanS:
