I can understand if school needs more time for sorting out the P5 classes, but 27 Dec is really running a tight timeline. Imagine parents who have to settle their newly minted sec 1 child in addition to last minute P5 purchase; what about those travelling during this period? And, the school bookshop is not open on 31 Dec.

      DoDo_DoDo,

To answer your question : Since not all parents will accept the school's recommendation on subject combination for P5, the school will have to relook at all the option forms submitted and sort out the classes accordingly, that's why they need longer time. But then again, only on 27 Dec ... ???
Thanks, Bluebells! I am not sure how long did the school give the new p5 parents to decide on their subject combi (of course i am a strong advocate of giving parents sufficient time to think through), but i kind of suspect it boils down partly due to the lack of systematic planning on the part of the school.

It is just like I understand that for the BICEP decision for the new P4 students, parents were only given 1 day to decide, or rather less than 24 hours to decide as the childrens were given the form on Wed and by Thurs morning, they have to submit the decision.

        Wow! This is really late!

        Does this happen every year?

Might as well bring forward p4’s SA2 a week like p5, so that e timeline can b brought forward too.

Yes, this is really late. End Nov is still acceptable but end Dec is really too late.
Imagine you can onlu buy the books end Dec only when most are sold out.
believe this is poor planning of the school. Yes, they should bring forward the exam if time is a constraint.
they should think of the parents.

This yr, I decided not to order those avail only in Jan bcos sch bookshop queue is such a nightmare during 1st few wk most of e time. Will try to buy those outside instead.
Ds’ didnt manage to reach head of q during recess or even half hr after sch . I had to take over on day 3 so that he could lunch etc.

Some practices need to be instilled in the culture, like any other organization. 😉

All organization has its own culture.
Individual’s expectation and perception is subjective.
Sometimes when certain things happen, it could be a one-off issue. And one-off issue does not represent the organization culture.
And if there are many similar issues, the next question is : is the issue feedback to higher management via proper channel. If no constructive feedback is given via proper channel, then do not expect change to happen.

There have been a few cases already, based on posts above, by different parents.
These days, all info should be at finger tips for everyone to see/school to show off.

i have not really read all posts but a few cases out of 300 - what is the percentage? and also for those few cases, are the feedback given to the school via proper channel?

I hope this won't become the culture of the school. 🙏
So far, my experience and these forum's posts have been very disappointing. 😢

I don't think E,F,G would be the top class.. probably the foundation class.

I am of the opinion that A, B, C, D, F classes are for the majority who takes up 4S or 4S + HMT (regardless of whether they are being recommended by school or parents’ choice); but I wouldn’t say the rest are foundation classes. To me, it is more like, one class might be weaker in Math, and another weaker in Science (and they can still be 4S classes), hence the class specific books are used for targeted learning.

I appreciate that the school has taken time to meticulously plan the classes as such so that targeted learning is possible.

It's tempting but not much pt if not suitable for e kids' level. Either increase boredom or stress unnec.

agreed. Leaning is not just about throwing some \"chim chim\" stuff to the pupils and think that the results will be good.

I also appreciate schools that take time to meticulously plan the classes to make targeted learning possible.
