Pat's Schoolhouse

Hi, I will not be responding to any requests as to what made me so upset with Aroozoo centre. As it is, if the principal does not upset me further, I will like to treat the matter as closed. This whole espiosde was decidedly unpleasant to me when all I had done was informed the school on a matter as a precaution for my child’s safety.
All I can say is, I am still supportive of Pat’s Schoolhouse centre in generally, just not Aroozoo. -
Hi,
Our DS is starting his N2 @ Tanglin branch come 2013.
We observe that the children there are pretty articulate and comfy in home clothing.
He will be in the afternoon 3hr program so I guess the so called enrichment programs will be out of his reach for the moment unless they have slots for the halfday or full day program.
Like all programs, without experienced teachers or leaders to execute them, they will fail to achieve their intended results.
However, what raises my concern(s) are:
a) How will the recent departure of The founder impact the organisation? This is the problem when someone so instrumental decides to leave...what happens after that? Who can step in her shoes and carry on the good tradition of 'Celebrating childhood' with innovative practices?
b) Bilingual immersion program is one of the Hallmarks of PSH. However, many mentioned that their K1-2s are learning less words as compared to the N1-2s in other preschools...do they have workbooks where one can make a direct comparison?
Generally, we saw a lot of happy faces on the children wrt to the centre visits. Our DS was attracted by the bold visual displays as put up by the teachers. There is also a good balance of play corners and activity stations over @ Tanglin branch.
Yes, the toilet area is a issue of concern wrt the hygiene level but on the whole, we feel relaxed in the white walled interior with clearly demarcated display boards, story books' corner and a myriad of children's work.
Like the initial match of lovers, we will view each other with rosy tinted glasses. It's over time when reality sets in, we start to match our ideals with realities. So, I'm hopefully, but @ the same time prudent over over expecting due to the high fees.
Anyway, the initial impression we get from PSH is the teachers & even the P let children be children and it sure looks like a close family.
So we hope, even with the takeover, (oredi years ago by KU) the sense of congenial famili-ness is still prevalent within the centres themselves.
:xedfingers:
:snuggles:
Cheers! -
Looking forward to hear from moms with kids @ the Tanglin Branch.
We also have a good impression over Ms Ada Teo, the P and hope that she can continue to motivate the teachers and inspire them to nurture the children well… -
This is old dated news but somehow very disappointing..
Patricia Koh has not retired as she claimed to be doing so, in the communication to the parents. instead she joined G8 group as CEO.

Pat’s at Serangoon really impresses me. The Principal, teachers and staffs there are incredibly fantastic. Not a single regret placing my son there…

JFP that’s nice to hear. Still waiting for someone to feedback on the Siglap branch and how is the principal and teachers.

My kid has been with Pat's Tanglin for the past 2 years.
When I first set out looking for a preschool (I visited 5 preschool organizations/various branches) for my girl, Ms Ada was the main reason why I signed up with the Pat's Tanglin. Her love and interest in the kids was obvious. 2 years later, I am glad that I have not being proven wrong. :rahrah:
In terms of layout, I like the fact that the school has an annex (aka. music room), bicycle area, playground and sandpit. Plenty of space for my daughter (super active) to run around.
Her English and Chinese teachers are great and would go an extra mile to make lessons more interesting for the class. Like most parents, the \"kiasu\" instinct in me causes me to wonder if she is playing too much and not \"studying\" enough.. I would sometimes question the lack of English or Chinese spelling homework. But, the teachers and principal would reassure me that the kids @ Pat's learn words via other means.
Just last weekend, my kid surprised me by reading the menu off the board at a food place... so, I guess there is some truth in what they are saying..
But since my kid has not actually gone into primary school yet, I am not able to tell if she is better or worse than the general population of kids her age (academic-wise). What I know for sure is that she loves school and would take the initiative to draw and write as well as browse through books herself.... so, Pat's did do a good job in initiating the love of learning in her... -
Hi depch,
glad to hear that! I am still waiting fro some feedback on the Siglap branch.

Anyone knows how long is the notice period needed to withdraw? One month or two? I am thinking to give up my gal’s placing for next Jan. The admin lady told me I might have my first month’s fee forfeited, besides the registration fee. The problem is the principal is not around and she can’t confirm. If I wait until the principal is back, it will be less than a month from Jan.

hi mummylin,
Why do you want to withdraw? Which branch?
