Patience and excellent fine motor skills are good to have for anything.
Btw, those small beads are Hama beads which I bought alot too many years ago for my child to play with her playdates but not so cheap from Growing Fun. So it's worthwhile to get from IKEA....should be more PATIENT... :stupid:

Thanks for posting the link. Oh those are hama beads. At Ikea they are called Pyssla beads. Great for encouraging creativity too. Kids can design any patterns that they want.

When mine were younger, they de-stress by going for swimming classes, inline skating, cycling and even skateboarding to the nearby park. occassionally, we'll play badminton as well.

now it's difficult to drag them away from the internet...even had to insist on a weekly exercise outing with the younger one.

My kids are learning swimming too. I hope to let them learn badminton, table tennis, rock climbing, and also to try out archery. But as a full time working mommy, I can only bring them out during the weekends. I will not want them to spend too much time on the computer everyday.

When I ask my girl whether she wants to become a doctor, she also says no. I am fine with my kids taking up any profession, so long as they can support themselves doing something that they love.

I was discussing about what kids can do besides playing PSP in another thread. I am thinking of what older kids and boys can do at home.


I bought a mini platform lifter :

This set is suitable for ages 8+. Yesterday my hubby made the lifter together with the kids, and it works amazingly well :

This set demonstrates how hydraulics machines work very well. But the set is too expensive and not worth the money. For older kids, we can challenge them to build something like this by looking for their own materials and may be even more complex machines.

I just want to share a drawing series that's easy and quite fun (note: probably more for kindergarteners and lower primary kids).
I have one artistic kid who can draw very well and one who has zero imagination and lofty ambitions, so I was pleased when my struggling artist found help with this series. Check out the http://www.drawyourworld.com/ books. The 'lessons' are easy to follow, not too daunting for a 4/5 yo.

I'm not sure if these are available in Singapore, but Amazon.com carries all the books.
