YSL290:
What will be the chances of getting into the prefer school if yr kid is scoring at the same COP or even 3 marks more than the COP?

You can only try and hope for the best.

Note:
(1) The stated COP of the school is based on last year's cohort, which means this year's cohort might be different depending on performance of cohort.

(2) The stated COP is the T-score of the last student who got into that school last year, it does not mean that all those students with similar T-score who applied for the same school got in (I heard there are decimals after the 3 digits).

(3) Depending on the popularity of the school and what it is looking for, having the same T-score as the COP does not mean you can get in via appeal too. I know of cases whereby kids have same T-score as the COP, but many were unsuccessful in their appeal for a popular school with limited vacancies!

KSP:
for those whose results didn't meet your expectation, i want to say there is always another chance in O/A level....

there are 2 things i have learnt from reading all the sharings of PSLE results here
1. don't set too high expectation
2. go for holiday during the period between after PSLE exam and before PSLE result release
Yes, I do share the 2 observations above.

For point 1, I think we need to set realistic targets for the kids. Despite target, we also need to tell the kids to do their best but sometimes if anything happen, it's not the end. There are always way out in life. I think this is critical.

On the other hand, as parents, I think we need to manage our expectations and also have contingency plans to prepare for the worst. So that, whatever the results is, it will be a bonus.

A friend whose ds just got his result was really happy. Her ds made it to normal (acad). She told me her ds has been struggling since P4 so they were worried he could not make it for normal (acad). So when he made it, they were over the moon.

Another learning which I felt was more \"controllable\" was really the DSA part. If there are any area that the child is interested/ has passion in, do consider developing child in that area early and potentially consider it for DSA purpose. It doesn't mean it is 100% proof method and frankly I don't know how tough it is (but we will try it next year). But at least the child has a chance before PSLE. If the child can get a place much earlier....But again, I strongly believe child must have passion in this area before we should consider that. I suppose it will help to cushion the PSLE stress. The end result of PSLE is about getting a place in a preferred school.

Whatever the results if the plan was to go on a holiday, do go and have a good break before you and your kid start the next phase of their education journey. When they hit secondary school, holidays are jam packed with activities. And when they get older they may not even want to travel with their parents anymore. So do not miss the chance for a good break.

MMM, sorry if this post is going to disappoint you: DSA is not an easy route and there is lots of competition for the limited vacancies. To be chosen, one has to have \"exceptional\" talent in that area, and it has to be one that the school is looking for. Even then, there may be only a handful of vacancies. As such, only a handful of top \"seeds\" will get it.

It's not only DSA, by the time your kid enters sec sch, you will discover that CCA is the same - in sec sch, it is the CCA that chooses you, not you choose the CCA! Sad but true - you no longer can \"learn\" a new instrument or a sports by joining the CCA, you need to have certain standard before the CCA will accept you!

Thanks for all who have encouraged me.

DS lighted up when I told him he had an option of 3rd language. Presuming that he would simply say no and faint, he did the opposite. Surprised me a little. He took the paper read it and thought for a brief moment. Then he asked, \"when must I decide on this? Can I wait till school re-opens? Will it do me any good in school?\". I was like oh-o in my heart. My reply was \"No you have to opt for it now. Anything you do well is always good, but anything you don't do well ends up a waste of time.\" So DS thought for a moment again...\"I think better not as there are twice as many subjects next year. Don't want to affect those.\" I was like phiew!!!

Anyway, DS asked me if he does well, can he transfer in Sec 1 or Sec 2 or Sec 3.... :siao: Gosh he must be quite unhappy with his current suitation.

Need some advice for selection of school of a T-score 241+1:

1) Anglican High
2) SJI (Express): would I be discriminated against the IP track in terms of allocation of teachers etc. Do I have to expect a high COP in Express track also with a parallel IP stream in the same school?
3) Chung Cheng
4) Xin Min
5) Nan Chiau
6) Tanjong Katong

TIA!

pchong:
No. You have to wait for the posting to be out first before you can appeal. Without being posted, you won't know if you already have a place at the school of your choice, neither would the principal, so how can you appeal to the school without knowing where you are posted?

The SOP, as I understand, is:
1) put the school of your choice as the first option
2) wait for posting
3) report to the school you are posted to
4) appeal to the school of choice

You must put the school you want as the first choice. If not, no chance at all.
I fully agree with Rain. yes, you should certainly put your choice of school at the first choice. But for those who know that they have little chance to be posted by PSLE score, appeal is another revenue. It will certainly help to be ready.

I did appeal for my ds two years ago. Upon some friends' advises, we did almost as soon as we received PSLE score, it was not too earlier. In fact, we were told by school, had we waited after posting date, it would be too late. It maybe depends on schools though. All the best!
I'm still blur...so how do i file an appeal? where do i go to?
Go to school, get appeal form, get supporting documents ready, more and less like DSA process, except no GAP test, but will have interviews for sure. Good luck.!

That is spirit! I like it! Of course, he can transfer if he does well in Sec 1 or 2. \"What cannot kill you will make you stronger.\" DD's favorite song. not mine though. :imcool:
