      The top 10% of cohort will be offered three categories of third language; while top 3% of cohort are offered EESIS; that is why to confirm those T score, is the key to find out your inquiry.


      Nevertheless, I do agree with you that certain Top school’s COP will go up this year, maybe NYGH and HCI? what do you think?

        I thought that the paper was easy but then my marks was unexpected low... What Happened?? :? :?:

        It is becos exam is relatively easy, the average score of the whole cohort is high. That means if you get high score, many students also scored high. When translated into bell curve, the T score is adjusted and it will moderated.

        The same thing happened to my kid. He is very good in maths and scored A*. But many of his classmates that are usually not as strong as him in the subject also scored A*. This had the effect of pulling the T score down.

        There have been many complaints in the past that the paper was too difficult. If it was difficult, it will differentiate those are very strong in the subject and those that are not.

        Unfortunately, the MOE seems to have caved in to the many past complaints that certain questions are \"exceptionally\" difficult.

          That's why I started a thread this morning to find out the top 10% of cohort. As for finding out top 3%, Jtoh had already started a thread.

          In general, I think COP for all top schools (not just NYGH and HCI) will go up this year.

            Kwcllf, absolutely agree w your post. If one study the logic of the whole psle system and the result it aims to pull, it’s not impossible to see why it is all going. To sieve the creme de la creme (in turns of academic results) so the process they can identify potential scholars, leaders, top positions in this govt? It is simply an academic exercise and my guess is they will alternate the difficulty of the papers each year , to manage the parents at large. Just my 2 cents.

              1) NYPS alone, about 43 students score 270 and above this year. My observation is that there are too many of them this year as compared to 2011. (this is about the figure for the whole nation last year, I could be wrong and please feel free to correct me and clarify.)

              2) Same observation of having many who has scored 270's in other top primary schools too.

              3) It looks like many neighborhood schools are producing some top performers who have scored 270's now.

              What does that tell us? Hmmm :scratchhead:

              On top of more than 40 kids scoring above 270, Nanyang has also a very high percentage (50% ???) of kids who scored above 250 while the percentage going to Express course nationwide is only 63%. IN addition, some schools' highest scores are only 270 or below , I wonder if MOE can throw some light into this. Maybe other schools are teaching the wrong things or not teaching effectively despite having very hardworking teachers or other socioeconomic factors …and despite the fact of so many students going for tuition.

              In addition, giving us info of percentage quality passes will give us a clearer picture of the subjects in the schools which have shown improvement and those which need to be improved. It is not uncommon to see quality passes hovering around 50% for some subjects in some schools.

                cherryc, Nanyang had abt 47% of kids who scored above 250 last year. So, to me, this is still consistent with previous year. The question probably is why Nanyang can consistently churn out good results while other schools can't deliver the results? Or Rather, why GEP schools can produce good results but other schools can't? Spill-over materials from GEP classes to the mainstream classes and hence those mainstreamers in Nanyang are benefited?

                    Yes top score in top schools will increase but they may tweak it to ensure the top schools can take around 10% of the cohort. As you pointed out earlier there is a significant increase in student population. I believe the top schools may not be able to take all the top students produced this year, since the top T score from pri school looks around the same. Having similar T scores in these pri schools IMHO is not likely the ability of the schools to produce academically smart student but may be moderated higher and grouped. Secondary school system is like MRT train system, now a lot more people using it, it breaks down.

                    If indeed all the primary school have ability to produce smart students, there will be a lot more good T score students (especially this year), then I can imagine almost all of them would want to go to top schools, although all schools are good. With a higher T score they would expect and want to go to a 'better' higher COP school. It would be chaotic if the T scores are not moderated to control the crowd. Like getting first class ticket, business class, economy etc... :yikes:

                      What about other GEP schools, do they all have 47% scoring above 250 ? In this era where teachers' quality, methods of teaching and the curriculum designed by the school are crucial given our insufficient text books and other factors, it will be good if MOE can do some investigation and shed some light.

                        Yes, they use the corhot middle 2/3 to decide yr score. so for eg. the average is 60, the passing point is 60. Tat’s what my principle said
