All 3 of my kids don’t have tuition as I don’t believe in sending kids all over Singapore to tire them. The assessments books that I bought for them to do n their homework are good enough. I believe firmly in time management n discipline.

My 14yr old dd is in cedar sec n my two sons are in Gep. I believe it’s also their own effort to want to excel.

        osim:
My girl in primary only has Chinese tuition. My boy in secondary has zero tuition.

        How I survive?

I avoid certain type of conversation with other parents so as not to give myself unnecessary anxiety. I choose to understand my children abilities and let them develop at their own pace. I must say I take a lot of risk and I do get jitters sometimes but I find that they develop better this way, they are happier and our relationship also healthier. I try to see their education beyond just their academics but how they grow as a person.

This has work very well for us. Their results fluctuate but that's okay. They know that their responsibility is to do their best, God will do the rest. For that, I hands off and leave them on their own to learn. They love me for giving them that independence and I know for that, they will try their best and that is good enough for me whatever the outcome.
I am exactly like osim, sometimes i avoid knowing too much to stress myself. Like osim too, DD in sec school zero tuition (in RGS), DS P4 (GEP) only chinese enrichment class. My kids' results fluctuate too, I highlight to them if marks are dropping and tell them to make effort to buck up. I also ensure they hand up school assignments on time.

My advice to them \"aim high and try your best that is most impt\" Like osim, i tell my kids education is not purely an academic journey but it encompasses things like character development etc ...

Yes, only 1 or 2 per cohort. Not through motivational strategies (near impossible unless brainwashed since a baby) but self-motivated and very intelligent.

No tuition and no assessment books? I think it will be hard. Even if we motivate the child, the child can self-study but still need to do assessment books to practise. Especially for subjects like Math. How to study and remember without practising? I find that the Pri Math textbook is too easy.

By the way, those without tuition can share whether you are a working parent or stay at home parent? I find that it’s hard for working parents to teach their child due to time constraint therefore we require tuition.

My DD got 258+2 and i did not give her any turtions and/or enrichment programs so far. But i put her inside a before-after school care center as nobody at home to take care of her lunch.

I donot think my DD’s mark is good enought and both my DD and me have a bit disappointed as we aimed school is NYGH.

In fact, there r a grp of parents that coach their children intensively n when d children fail to perform or get in to GEP, they blame on others tat sent their kids to tuition. And they keep harping on d same topics again n again in forum like a broken recorder…trying to stir up d emotions here…

If all parents think like u, then life would be much better for d children n forum would be a much better place rather than hearing d same rants again n again…
