After these few days of followg e various psle threads, I must admit this is freaking me out even though my ds is just going to start p3 next year. Ds is really very average student or I would say even below ave by PHPPS’ high standard, his p2 FY results are really mediocre, but he did show tremendous improvemt in sa2 paper…I was originally happy, but after readg all e psle threads, I dunno anymore…looks like must push ds really hard going fwd? sign now I start to understand the fuss behind all these stress related to psle… Aiyo really feel scared…

I feel that we shouldn’t put too much emphasis in grades at P2 level. At that level, whoever has the discipline to be careful will do well. At higher levels, the ‘carelessness’ impact will diminish and other factors come into play more, so we’ll see a lot of swapping of classes from P3 to P4.

No doubt PH pushes the students hard. This is one common trait of SAP schs so it should not come as a surprise [for anyone who has done his homework]. I heard the environment in some schs is more relaxed; it really depends on which is your cup of tea.

How about Pei Hwa Primary school PLSE result? It is so hotly discussed in other web thread. My husband told me Pei Hwa did not do well this time. Is it true? My son will be in P6 next year. Worry, worry.

Phpps did very well this yr - almost 40% of P6 scored 240 & above, a record year 🙂 We may not have a lot of super high score students, but a very sizable group of students with above average scores.

          Well Done PHPPS.

Do you think Pei Hua push students too much? I do not think so. This year, the last semester, my son seldom got homework. He always told me they had finished all at school. The other thing, every Thursday, it should be the math supplementary, but a lot of times, the supplementary lessons are cancelled due to absence of the teacher. A lot of math and Chinese worksheets were not marked in time, especially math worksheets. I wanted to call but I thought Pei Hua is good school, I should be patient. But if PH in PLSE can not produce students with marks above 270 + while a lot of neighberhood schools can, something must be missing. We can not be complacent because of old records. Can school motivate students to learn actively? My son always saying he is within top 10 in level and then always push his work to last minute. The attitude is a big problem. Marks are not all but it does reflect the attitude to excel in competition.

                Please verify if there's any typo error - is it 40% 240 & above, or, 40% 250 & above ? Thank You.

My boys's supplementary lessons combination is English & Science in a week and Maths (M1) & Mandarin (C4) in the following week. Never every Thurs is Maths supplementary lesson. Sometimes, there is no supplementary lessons for a particular subject due to the teacher has another commitment.

During the March's Meet the Parents session, I bought up the issue of this year there was a lesser workload (compared to my elder boy's time P5 in 2008) and was told by the FT that there is a shift in emphasis in quality worksheet than worksheet quantity. My P5 boy did not hv to submit weekly journal writing and there was certainly less brainstorming for creative writing. I was also told by the M1 Maths teacher that sometimes the pupils will complain too much work. IMO this year teachers are too soft.

The CL teacher managed to finish teaching the last chapter in the last week before the SA2 started and worksheets for prior chapters were returned during that last week.

I think it is difficult for school to \"motivate students to learn actively\", it all depends on the type of teachers.

This above statement is true, I think. Asked a friend, all she knows is about 250+, one 260. It is so horrible. PH should wake up. Teacher should not ask students go to tuition and ask working parents strugling too much. School should motivate teachers and students to work together and have a fighting spirit next year. My son will be p6 soon. How should I do if the school just loosen its rein while most of time, my son only follow his teachers’ instructions.
