Erm, many geppers also go through GAT for DSA. Just like those who apply through other domains. And i'm personally aware that not all geppers get COs; top schs are selective and are not as 'indiscriminating' as many parents presume.CayennePepper:

For those who have said/implied in one or another that the GEP seems to have specially prepared the students for PSLE - you don't understand what GEP is about. For GEP students, the school usually doesn't really start preparing them for the PSLE until well after the 2nd term (only in July and for some schools, late July/early August) unlike their mainstream counterparts who have been geared towards the PSLE since day one of P6. In fact, they still have to submit their social studies portfoliio in July and take their social studies exams in August. GEP students may have been exposed to more challenging topics but usually some of these are out of the PSLE examination boundaries.
So, if a parents' hope is that their child gets into GEP so that will he or girl will be given \"special training\" become the top scorer for PSLE, then they will be in for a rude shock. This is because GEP is not about giving special treatment for a group of students so that they can score well for PSLE. GEP is about differentiated learning for this group for children who may become bored and disinterested in learning if they are are not mentally challenged.

It's getting more and more difficult to accept the results. Students who were performing so much lesser than her has outperformed her tremendously. What is wrong? Is it just exam luck? Should I get the papers to be assessed?
I Think it's the MT Tscore that makes the results very different. for example say there are 3 kids taking 3 different MT and assume their raw score is the same for psle. however, their MT T-score will be very different as the 3 sub- populations are different and the mean score and std deviation used in the calculation of the MT T-score will differ too. that's why students who used to come in the top 10 in prelims will suddenly be overtaken by others for psle. thus, MOE should use raw scores for MT instead of T-score. as for Maths, sc and eng we are talking about one population size and thus all students' T-score calculation will be based on same mean score and std deviation unlike MT T-score calculation . I hope MOE will rectify this problem soon. my daughter's friend got 3 A* for Maths, sc and eng but got an A for Hindi. Hindi sub-population is very small and if the mean score is high even if std deviation is low, her T-score for Hindi will bring her aggregate t-score down as compared to her friends taking other MT even if they had scored the same raw score. -

Don't you think this (DSA domains) is a double-edged sword? If the schools only have one domain, then some will some it's unfair to lump all applications together. When there a few domains, to some, it is also deemed as unfair. I believe no one system can please everyone. -

Gepper r well prepared for scoring psle!! >90% top scorer with 270’s in nanyang n also the one who scored 285 r gepper !
In fact, geppers r more well prepared than mainstreamers for psle exams! Both mainstreamers n geppers prepared psle at the same time in their p6 in around July!! -

This seems to be true for 5 kids I know, out by at least 1 big figure from expectations.
True for my DD. But what does this mean?
1. Cohort mean score has gone up
2. number students having 260+ t-score have increased significantly.

I have spoken to my kid's tutor earlier. He said some of his students in the top of their respective classes saw their T Score dropped significantly. The same happened to my kid as his result is below what he is capable of. This is a big surprise to the tutor and he said some of his students' parents will be going back to their kids' school to try to find out why the large difference in PSLE results and school results.[/quote]
I happened to check the Learning Lab website tdy and was shocked to learn that many of these top scorers over the years are from learning lab. I remember some of these top scorers claimed they did not go for tuition but they are students of this expensive tuition centre. besides the point that these kids who score above 270 are from GEP, they get more training from this expensive tuition centre. Their names and scores are all provided in Learning Lab's website. Now I'm no longer so impressed with these kids' psle top scores. this shows if a kid can afford learning lab's fees and with their special high calibre coaching, scores 270 and above, this doesn't make them more intelligent than other kids who cannot afford the expensive tuition fees. it just shows with more thorough coaching kids can do better than their peers. that doesn't sound impressive anymore! -
Yes you are right, Toughlifemummy, I strongly think those schools who didn't do well should analyse the Sch exam vs psle std.
Yesterday, I really felt like marching into dd sch to have a good talk with the principal why the class t score was about low 22x. But my neighbor who saw her in the morning regarding the selection of sec Schs had a lecture from her that all schools are good schools. So I changed my mind.
I also suspect those out of the box kind of questions, like Olympiad math quests came out during psle. Dd and most of her classmates were not exposed to these kind of questions before, so sort of stumbled a little. I have not seen those questions in her math file. Dd and friends, aft the math paper, came out paled face and said 'this time sure die'. But also hrd many pupils from some schools saying it's easy.
Those \"good\" neighborhood schools might also have good methods and strategies to help their pupils achieve such stunning% and high agg.
Dunno if I'm analyzing correctly.
