      ChiefKiasu:
I believe the comments in the previous pages are said tongue-in-cheek. In any case, there will always be criticism about any system. Those already in GEP will feel they are being unfairly criticised. Those not in GEP will feel Geppers are being given unfair advantage. Concerns about fairness should not be directed at each other, but should rather be fed back to MOE whose policies on GEP/DSA have created this divide.

:goodpost: it is difficult to have contructive discussion here because many take it very personally. Gep/dsa is indeed a very controversial policy which has drawn division among parents. It is really up to moe to evaluate n decide if this policy justifies this division n also many others such as unhealthy Competition and stress...

Just to set the record straight, I was not referring to GEP, IP or DSA.

 I have my conspiracy theory abt DSA for GEP

Since GEP kiddos are groomed to be the next generation of leaders, stated in MOE's website, but I not using word for word lah, it makes sense to keep this group as much together as possible. Since they usially DSA for a handful of schools, it's possible to keep them more or less together to enable the nation to do their grooming thing

Firstly, it's not conclusive that leader can be trained。Some of the people thinks that they are born with! Some believed that they are forced to be.

Secondly, how to groom leader when you put them out of touch of the world n there is no interaction with the majority for diversity! Are we trying to groom superiority instead.

              时势造英雄!没有 适当的环境,哪来的英雄?

Maybe scrap DSA, IP program, GEP perhaps then everyone can be on level playing field. :skeptical:

Is the above really sufficient to level the playing field?
After the above are accomplished, no other requests?
Are we over-sheltering & cushioning our kids from the real world? :skeptical:

What I have been reading scares me. :scared:

I'm trying very hard to understand why is it that when the majority (I assume, based on numbers) can't get into IP/GEP/through DSA, then the playing field is deemed not level and NOT FAIR.
It's a little like the priority phases in P1 registration -- not fair cos you can get in and I can't![/quote]I think you have to look at it from the majority perspective and the frustration may not stem from envy as pointed out by some KSPs here:-

P1 registration: If a family is not well to do how to afford to buy (or rent) near a well known school eg. NYPS or did volunteer work and did not get into that school, then there would be some frustration.

GEP: GEP is one avenue to transfer into a better school. It has to be some schools are better, if not why change? Like the 285 top student from NYPS this year, who is a transfer from RMPS which I read from somewhere else in this forum. But not parents and kids would want to subject themselves to the stress that comes along with the program. But as mentioned time and again, while academically strong not all in the program are truly 'gifted'. :skeptical:

At the top/gifted level, competition is with the older more matured newcomers from billion population countries. 😓

DSA for GEP: Some secondary schools take in GEP students before PSLE through DSA and still accepted them even when their actual PSLE scores is say only 250. So mainstreamers scoring more than these students feel frustrated that they have been disadvantaged despite scoring higher. So where is the meritocrazy?

IP Program: The frustration is added on when some of these top schools are IP schools that allows skipping of O level. I'm sure many parents and kids would love the idea of skipping O level and going to a top JC directly. But to those kids that lost the places to GEP DSA students, they have to stressed themselves 4 years in a good secondary school and take a major stressful O level exam and need to score sometimes 3 points or lower for 6 subjects L1R5 to be able to enter into some top JCs. :yikes:

That is why MP Hri Kumar is pushing for DSA for GEP to be removed. For KSP who wants to argue on the equability, or the lack of it, can look for him. 😂

Uni: Of course there are other routes to getting a place in a (local) Uni. A student can get a 200 at PSLE, then go to a good secondary school, then perhaps to ITE, then go to a good polytechnic, then go Uni. There is also NS in-between for boys. It is a longer route, but can families here afford the opportunity costs? :scratchhead:

unfairness? the conclusion: DSA for GEP allows skipping the PSLE to go to a top school and may in turn skip O level if the DSA is into and IP program.

Not easy to join IP programs for good secondary students as they need to score 3 points for 6 subjects.

Big opportunity and time cost if go good secondary school, ITE, poly, uni.

There are some other sensitive socio-economic issues which I shan't elaborate but put yourself in the majority people's shoes please. 🦆

Maybe from MOE's point of view it makes sense.

                    对!天才与庸才只是一线之差。小三就得定夺分级天才庸才之分。。太早了吧。
