There are some other sensitive socio-economic issues which I shan't elaborate but put yourself in the majority people's shoes please. 🦆

Hahaha, I AM in the majority!

      Everyone is in the majority!

I trust that MOE would consider all walks of life with different backgrounds including those with very humble background. Don't worry..

        Good point.
Without LKY, probably we won't even have this GEP/DSA/IP issues to consider. Most of us will probably not be as educated as we are now. Can even look over our shoulders & rejoice over our less stressful, less competitive life.

Well, maybe in the near future we can look forward to such blissful lives. :boogie:

I have a qn for members who wish to do away the GEP. At my end, I cannot understand how 500plus kids are produced annually who are gifted. But in each cohort there are kids who are more academically inclined.

If the education method is more child-led, the problem of how much to teach to each child will be more easily handled. But since ours is more of a 1 size fit all for each category, as in you either go to foundation, mixed ability, high ability or GEP, how to handle a group of highly academically inclined kids, if no GEP ?

While there are members who are against GEP, so far I dont see post abt foundation class.

              OT a bit.

What do pple here think about overseas kids joining our pri sch midway and dropping 1-2 levels? That’s one area I feel puts all 12-yr old kids here [local or otherwise] at a big disadvantage. It’ll be useful to know how many such cases are there each year.

 I have my conspiracy theory abt DSA for GEP

Since GEP kiddos are groomed to be the next generation of leaders, stated in MOE's website, but I not using word for word lah, it makes sense to keep this group as much together as possible. Since they usially DSA for a handful of schools, it's possible to keep them more or less together to enable the nation to do their grooming thing

I have been a passive reader of this forum most of the time but I feel I need say something here. GEP has been around for many years. Up till about 10 years ago before the top schools went IP route, all GEP students were automatically promoted to the GEP secondary schools like RI RGS and ACS. So when you look at the system now, it has actually evolved and instead of almost 100% GEP in top schools like RI and RGS, now perhaps on 50% are successful in their DSA to these two schools. And there are easily 10 % of GEP who are not successful in their DSA application, and end up in schools with o levels subsequently. Sometimes I do not know why there is an obsession among parents to get their kids into top schools. I always felt that a kid should go to a school suited to his ability.

I do understand why parents want their kids into top school, starting from primary school.

Whether their decision is right or not we do not need to judge.
The decision to get kids into GEP is definitely a right one.

It is a loophole utilized by some locals and newcomers to skip PSLE (DSA even though may not make the COP for a top school).

Skip PSLE and land up in IP program means skip O level to go to A level direct, while others stress to get 3 points or less from 6 subjects at O level. 😓

This good decision saves a family many years that would otherwise be spent on stressing for PSLE, then stressing O level, then stressing for ITE, the stressing for promotion to Poly, then eventually ending up in uni. 🦆

If you are a parent which decision would you make?

No, because there is no perceived 'advantage' for students from foundation classes.
If MOE decides these students can skip the traumatic psle (late bloomer syndrome and all) and promote them directly to secondary education, maybe at popular/selective schools (since they can produce good results!), I doubt there'll be silence about such a policy, IF it deprives other kids of places.

I read that they are not going to announce A level results also. Maybe....how about stop publishing President and PSC scholars list...

I think civil service jobs should make the bonus even for all civil servants too...no point ranking them because it causes unhealthy competition.

Why only make bonus even, equal pay for all will be even better? No more competition!

There is probably some truth....they should not have made the difference in pay so huge in civil service. Why should the top civil servant and ministers pay be in the millions? It only causes envy, right? Is in the same spirit as not announcing the top scorers for psle..

In contrast to the above point that I brought up, announcing psle, O level and A level top scorers have been an age old practice that have not cause any issues.

So, I wonder our gov has been barking up the wrong trees and is just putting out cosmetic actions.
