Hi smartmummy,Hi All!
Recently I saw a post that consist a qn that her DD failed in PSLE.T comment was lack of key words.I searched the post but couldn't find it.
Now my son in P3.I think, the correct time to guide him in proper way to do Sci in future.
Dear parents, pls advise me how do you prepare/teach your kids?
I have some assessement books, some qns I found it out of syllubus (may be i am wrong).atutor advised me to do past paper enough. Is past paper only enough or need to do assessment books? How we need to collect information from web like example of gases?
qn: checking the material that which material can pass through the light more
1)Why you choose this material?
ans a: Its more transparent
ans b: It allows more light pass through
Which is correct?
Most of the answers in pastpaper, they follow the qn.I told to my son follow the qn.He said other answer also acceptable.
Pls advise me. Thanks in advance.
I just completed my PSLE and got a A* for science. For me, I did not have any tution for science during my P6 years. I think that mostly you just have to have a good science reference and notes, and of course work hard. You don't really need tution even though for most singaporeans they all have tution. For me, I use mainly 2 different type of reference. the PSLE Ultimate Science Guide (orange one) is one of them. the other is the box of thin books: everything you need to know about science by Patricia Chan-Dendroff
then, i have 2 books of workbook:EPH Challenging Science by Jane Sim
(lower block [green/white]and upper block[blue white])
I guess you can also buy mock papers to do. If you have a science background, you can also help to select questions from the mock papers for her to do based on her weak topics where she has the most number of mistakes, like for me is the heat topic, so i do more heat topic questions to improve it.
Also, I have bought a ring file to use for science. Inside are Mindmaps that I made, one for each topic, mainly the P5-P6 topics. I made them using the two reference book that i mentioned earlier. these mindmap are the most useful of all and I always read it the night before exams, including the night before Psle, just to recap on all topics. This will be how i study for science.
This is only a suggestion, so I guess it still depends on your kid, how is her style of studying.
Hope this helps!

StaryNight.
very encouraging to hear that you got A* in science without tuition. i assume u are from mainstream.
congratulations on the good work! and thanks for sharing! -
Quite inspired by postings from parents and children who scored well without tuition.
In 2013, my DD1 will be in P3. Hubby and me have made the decision not to send her for tuition.
One: it wastes lot of our time to bring her to and fro (don't have car, COE is so expensive...)..
Two: We also feel once a week tuition cannot make much difference unless the child is committed to revise and study on his/her own.
Keeping my fingers crossed now..hope DD1 can learn to understand questions.. Just hope she learns to science answer with key words

Yes, this is a useful tip.Agree with Yewniffler171.
I will encourage the child to be more detailed in his/her answer.
\"It is a transparent/tranlucent material which allows most/more light to pass through compared to the other materials.\"
In 'choosing', we are making a comparison before we make a choice. Therefore it is good to include in your answer that you've made a comparison and this is the 'best' material out of those given.

Mrs Wong
