Don't give up on yourself yet! I'd say even if you cannot through via s1 posting, appealing might work for you

Hi all
Does anyone here know how many students will RGS take in from the S1 posting?
My gal is at the low end of the score range based on their 2012 intake, so am wondering should i choose RGS for her.
Even tho her results have been pretty consistent, her score has still exceeded my expectation so im worried that she may not be able to cope with the work and will affect her confidence.
Grateful if anyone here can give me some advice. Thanks.

Yes, CSP is taught in school. My dd got in RGS through DSA. For 3rd language, is Chinese Special program taught in school?
Also can anyone tell me what is the advantage of taking a third language. Sorry I am very new to secondary school system.
Besides getting to learn a new language, if you do well in the subject you get to substitute one humanities GPA with your 3rd lang GPA! Eg, if let's say you did badly in history with a 2.0 GPA, but your 3rd lang was a 4.0, then even though in the report slip both GPAs will be reflected, your overall GPA will only take 3rd lang's into account.
:welcome: to RGS! -

decide between French/Chinese but I am trying to encourage her for
Chinese. Though I know it is a very difficult Lang. But I think it's still
worth to put effort in Chinese than French for Practical reason. -
May I ask any parents here let their gals choose the school themselves?
Reason for asking is i want my gal to put RGS and NYGS as first 2 choices but my gal prefers to go Dunman High instead as she has a few friends choosing Dunman.
I am at a loss now since I dun wish to create an excuse for my gal in future if she really gets into RGS or NYGS but does not do well for her studies.
My dad is also supportive of her going Dunman since is her choice and also travelling time from our home (hougang) to Dunman compared to RGS and NYGS is shorter.
My dad also feels that with her score of 263, she will only be 50/50 in getting into either RGS or NYGS and is worried that if she misses out on either, she may not even get into DHS if DHS has already filled up their quota from those who choose them as first or second choice.
Any advice? -

Why don't you have a chat with your dd and let her know why you think RGS/NYGH is better for her. And allow her to share with you her views on DHS. You can also list down the pros and cons of each choice and go thru them together. If she still feels strongly that she prefers DHS, then respect her choice. After all, she's the one who's going to the school for 6 years and she has to be happy there. Having said that, I believe RGS is an excellent school.
As for whether placing DHS as 2nd or 3rd choice will decrease your chances at getting there in the event that she doesn't make the cut for RGS/NYGH, rest assured that S1 central posting is based on merit, not by who places them as first choice. So in the event she doesn't get RGS/NYGH, she will be given DHS. -

Don't know if they are still doing The Giver.
Yes, RGS uses Sec 3 & 4 geog tb from sec 1. It will last till sec 4.
History textbook...not really touched. -

A school tie will be given to you along with other things like 2 name tags (which will be issued after a month or so) and other stuff that are necessary in a bag during orientation. If you lose your school tie, you can purchase it from the Prefectorial Board room beside the General Office
