Urgent advice needed : does CHOICE matters?
-
My boy has a T-score of 232, and he would have a very slim chance of going back to CHS even through the affiliation scheme.
The next school I really like is Maris Stella. However, in the event he doesn’t get into CHS and MS is actually 2nd choice, would he lose out to another boy with SAME T-score but indicates MS as 1st choice?
Can anyone urgently advise me please? Thanks! -

There are many decimal points after your child's t-score, so that means it is unlikely that two children will have the exact same t-score. So long as your child is ranked higher than the next child, your son will be posted to MS even if the child after your son put it as 1st choice. In your case, I think it's important for you to put CHS as first choice to make full use of the affliation in case he does qualify. If he were to put CHS as 2nd choice, he loses the affliation bonus immediately. My boy has a T-score of 232, and he would have a very slim chance of going back to CHS even through the affiliation scheme.

Well… You could appeal…

Thanks so much for your advice jtoh! Really appreciate it!
Actually, I called MOE twice today to clarify. The first officer told me Choice does matters, and the second one told me exactly what you said. So I was really confused! -

Agree. Don't give up. Use your affliation.

choice does not matter as in if your first choice no hope will not affect your second choice...until the choice that you can get it, AND it will not be affected by someone with lower score who put his first choice on the one you put sixth choice...because you get to choose before those lower score than you. Thanks so much for your advice jtoh! choice does matter when you are able to get in all your 6 choices - and hence please rank them carefully, dont end up in the choice that you would have preferred last -
Thank you so much for all of your kind advice! My son really wants to try for CHS, but as a mother I am very concerned he doesn’t get CHS and then after that doesn’t get MS as well.
As his T-score is borderline MS’ COP, i was thinking if I put MS as 1st choice and if he doesn’t get in, chances of appeal higher right?
But if I don’t put CHS, I will always live with this regret…

Don't give up your affliation bonus. It's your best bet at getting into CHS. If it happens that your ds's T-score is unable to get him into MS, you can still try appealing. There's no hard and fast rule that appeals only come through for students who place that school as first choice.Thank you so much for all of your kind advice! In the CHS thread, a parent wrote that the cop for affliated is now 240. Maybe you might like to check with the school?

Hi dreamgear,
oh really? I actually asked the principal but he said COP dunno yet cos it varies from year to year. So how can the COP be known now??
Bizarre!
