PSLE T score vs subject Grade

pengpeng:
My friend's son gets 4A & his score is only 216. Don't forget A is between 75 - 90 (the range is very wide) & A* is 91 & above. The value of A* is much higher than A. He needs to get at least 2A* & 2A to be in the top 10% of the PSLE cohort (250 & above)Hi,
My son got PSLE score 235, he has grade A for english, math and science, grade A* for chinese. I just a bit wonder whether his score shall be a bit higher than 235?
Appreciate if anyone could give a a hint.
Many thanks -
But for 3A & 1A*, take the minimum 75 and 91, 0.75*(375+191) = 237, the mimimum T score would be 237, and if the 3A are slightly higher than 75, the T score should be more than 237, right?

They could have drop the A to 70-91 -
But I know someone got 4 A and the score is 240… anyway, thanks for all your explanation.

Grades (A* / A / B / C, etc) are based on raw score. T-Score is the moderated score against the whole cohort so it cannot be compared as such.

Chong Zheng Primary has explained the T-score. It is possible that 1A* 3A score is lower than 4A. -

Yes, it really depends on the quality of A and A*. My nephew who has A* for maths and As for the rest has a T score of 254, while a friemd's child who is having A* for MT and As for the rest has T score of 250.pengpeng:

It really depends on the quality of the A - one student may have 4 As which are around 75-80, while another may have 4 As which are around 85-90. -

Applying the 0.75 factor won't give a good estimation of t-score because the t-score is computed based on standard deviation and mean.
Like some other posters mentioned, the quality of the grade is very important.
Even 3A* and 1A can still fall short of top 10% of cohort. -
Hi all,
Thank you so much for the sharing, I got one more question, my son’s score is 235 plus 2 for merit in higher MT, total 237, Chung Cheng(main) is 237 and Maris Stella is 232, I am living in AMK, which school shall I put in front?
Chung Cheng has a super nice camp and good environment but a bit far, Maris Stella is also a quite good school and closer to home, except a bit smaller. I take MRT circle line to get in these two schools.
Can someone help to analyse and make decision? Many thanks.
