I tried asking my son's form teacher for the highest % for the P2 cohort, answer is that the school will not disclose. Honestly, not disclosing the top scorers' names and highest scores does not alleviate any stress. I feel that the ministry is behaving like an ostrich!Callie Tan:
Tried calling the school to ask but the person who anwered my call said he didn't know...
Anyway, got a call from the school who told me that they are not going to reveal this piece of information to parents now. They are doing so in-line with MOE's direction. Period. :stompfeet: -

At least your son's form teacher replied. My DS's form teacher didn't even reply to my email.

Just to share...my neighbour's DS scored a disappointing 214 and I heard from the mother that most of his classmates scored around 210 - 225 only. This is really quite poor results from a popular SAP school that I thought is really good in my era. I understand that in PCPS, our kids need to be in either the top 2 best classes or the bottom 2 classes in order to get the \"special treatment\". If you are in the average classes, you better take care of yourself. You get those average teachers too. This is really sad.
In fact, PCPS has the 2nd largest intake of 360 P1 students, the largest intake being Nanyang, with enrollment of 390 students. That means PCPS has about 360 students taking PSLE each year (this already takes into consideration those transferred out in P3 due to GEP but the school also accept some students in the wait list so 360 is the average). However, over the past few years, the school never produce any top student with T-score anywhere close to 280. The question is with so many students taking the PSLE, PCPS has higher chance of producing top scorers but it never achieve even 275. What has exactly gone wrong? Teachers did not push the students hard enough? Too little homework? Lots of homework but no quality?? Too much time spent on CCA? Out-dated teaching materials or ??? Out of this big pool of students, how many actually scored > 270?? How many > 250 are there?
I hope the school will share more information (statistics by sujects) with the parents of the existing students. If the school need parental support, tell us. We give full support. If you need us to send the kids to whatever ABC enrichment school because 1 teacher is unable to take care of 40 students, let us know too and we will send. Do not tell us only \"good things\" about the child performance in PMT session, tell us the truth so that we as parents, know what to do next. With the new Principal taking charge, I really hope to see better performance, better results from the school soon. :xedfingers: -
If you go to PCPS website under Academic Archievment, you will still see PSLE 2010 results under Academic Achievement. I have given feedback to the GO and written my feedback on the feedback form. Now I understand why PCPS doesnt want to update. Am sure MOE has been discussing this for some time. With ref to the post at http://wiseoftheday.blogspot.sg/2012/11 ... dents.html, I agree that one has to solve a problem and not pretend that the problem will go away by hiding the problem.
Talking about parents giving undue stress to pupils, wasn't it MOE who started it first by setting tough Math questions at PSLE, way beyond the level of most pupils? Does the ministry naively think that parents like to stress their kids with endless tuition? Since MOE wants to hide the info, can the govt stop sharing the educational background of their politicians, shouldn't they stop promoting elitcism? -
Information on how pupils of Pei Chun fare in PSLE is published in the school annual every year. PSLE 2011 is in page 20 of 2012 school annual, PSLE 2010 is in page 3 of 2011 school annual, PSLE 2009 is in page 8 of 2010 school annual and PSLE 2007 is in page 15 of 2008 school annual. No mention of PSLE 2008 in 2009 annual. Not sure whether 2012 PSLE results will be published in 2013 school annual.
From the school honour roll outside the school office, PSLE top scorer at Pei Chun range between 272 in 2004 and 2005 to 282 in 2007.
It is not fair to compare Pei Chun PSLE results with other schools because Pei Chun does not offer Gifted Education Programme (GEP). 10 - 18 top pupils from Pei Chun were transferred yearly at the end of P3 to schools like Nanyang, Catholic High, Rosyth, Raffles Girls Pr, Tao Nan, Nan Hua, Henry Park, ACS Pr and St Hilda’s Pr that offers GEP.
Top PSLE pupils are likely to come from these 9 schools that offers the GEP as they take in the top 2% of the cohort at the end of P3.
At the end of the day, there is only one or two pupils who will top the cohort every year. What matters is how well your child does, not how many points the school’s top pupil scores. -

The Principal is not exactly new... I undertand that she's an old girl from PCPS and has been with the school for one year already. Only recently I FINALLY have a glimpse of her on the school year book!!Just to share...my neighbour's DS scored a disappointing 214 and I heard from the mother that most of his classmates scored around 210 - 225 only. To be fair, a large intake also will mean that the overall average performances of students will be pulled down... well, that's what I was told when I got a shock to know from my girl's FT this year that the average for P2 English, Maths and Chinese are all slightly above 80!!
I support Precious2.lee's views that certain information should be released to existing students!! As parents, I want to know how is my girl doing... how the school is doing. Seriously, her P2 year is more disappointing than her P1 in areas such as teachers deployment, communication and academic work given and the kind of exposure my girl is getting in PCPS also not up to my expectation.... Well, I might be very KS to find out more but I am not a demanding parent...
Then can someone enlighten me why PCPS is a popular SAP school ah?? -
bridesep:
I know of parents who gave very frank and honest feedbacks (verbal and written) to the FT as well as school but the school never get back to the parents.... I have mentioned in my previous posts that I also recently gave a lot of \" I don't know\", \"I am not aware\" responses on a feedback form my girl brought back... I am very sure the school will not bother to come back to me lah.... so why ask for feedback ah??If you go to PCPS website under Academic Archievment, you will still see PSLE 2010 results under Academic Achievement. Hi Callie,
Just curious…do you mean you were shocked at the average because 80+ average is very high or very low compared to your expectations…just trying to get a grab on what are the expectations at lower primary at PC? In some way, the average score can be quite misleading as it can be greatly skewed because of a few very high or very low marks…median or percentile may be a better gauge… -

Yes I am more keen to know on average, how many PCPS students score 230/240/250... rather than who is the top scorer and the points. Will the school provide such info to existing students?
