thank you, ycpang. what a relief to hear that!
But I still dont understand what is this EESIS COP that they equate to top 3 % ?
How do they know that the EESIS COP for PSLE 2009 is 261 ?
Thanks -
Way2GO:
can i know how the above sentence in bold (the statistics) derived from?
If we take 10% COA at 248 and 3% COA at 261 (EESIS) and this year's PSLE cohort at 48,500+,
there are ~1,455 students in top 3%;
leaving ~3,395 students spread over a 13 point range from 248 - 260.
We don't know the distribution of this range, but I would hazard a guess that those in the 257 - 260 range stands a very good chance of getting into NJC.
I understand that NJC had ~ 200 places still available excluding DSA just b4 S1 posting exercise.
i had called NJC (B4 the PSLE results released) to enquire abt the remaining vancanies after DSA, they refused to reveal anything.
i also understand that most IP schools would fill in half of the total vancanies during DSA.
btw, i'm just curious abt the statistics. ( i'm not \"targetting\" at NJC).
below is what i gathered fr NJC thread posted by one of the forumer in 2008.kiasuson:
Here are some information given by the Principal and information booklet:
1. There will be 150 vacancies for next year Sec 1.
2. They have offered about 50% to the DSA. Some of the DSA students have multiple offers. So you might look at about 60% to 70% available.
3. The class sizes will not be more than 25.
4. They will increase year to 200 in year 2010 and 250 in year 2011. They also indicate that they do not have sufficient classroom yet and will be building for the next 2 years. The Senior High student(Year 5 and 6) might need to study in the containers.
5. Base on history, their students PSLE averages is above 250. This is also the averages for IP Students. Base on this, we can estimate the cut off point.
6. During the first 2 years, the students can try all the CCA in the college. They can switch every 6 months. By year 3, they will have to choose one.
7. Their curriculum is also different. They do not believe in text books and will follow college style with Notes and Lettures. But they have personal mentors.
8. They curriculum is also base on modules which is quite smiliar to NUS High.
9. They are good at Science and have a lot of projects/research with univerities around the world.
10. The other focus is on leadership and arts. -

Yes u r right to say that instead of no of pupil scored between 260 and 270 drop, it should be No of those scored above 260 has dropped.mathsparks:
xxjustakidxx and ycpang,
maybe i've lost you guys somewhere. Why specifically, the number of people between 260-270 decreased significantly..based on your analysis, shouldnt it be no. of kids above 260 has decreased significantly.
:?

We have made an assumption that EESIS is given only to top 3% of cohort - looks about right. But I still dont understand what is this EESIS COP that they equate to top 3 % ?

EESIS COA @ 261 gathered from within this forum. We have not come across any parent/child reporting having receive EESIS at < 261. -

You log in tomorrow to the same website that you submitted your S1 options, using the same PIN that was given to you, but I don't see the need to log in to check since they would be sending out sms alerts to parents. Hope that helps.
Oh yes, BTW, I managed to cut and paste from the MOE's website, looks like posting results would only be out at 9am! Wonder if the sms would come in earlier than that?
Quote from MOE ....
The S1 posting results will be released on 22 Dec 2009 at 9am. Parents and pupils will be able to check the posting results via any of the following channels:
Short Messaging System (SMS) via applicant’s local mobile number (if provided by applicants during submission of school choices)
S1 Internet System (S1-IS) (link will be provided shortly)
Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) (Tel: 6691-2066)
Going to the child’s primary school
Pupils are to report to the secondary school that they are posted to on 23 Dec 2009 at 8.30am. -
Dear Happygolucky & Ooptimizer
thanks for msg. yes, i am happy for the score of 255 and am very proud of my child. We are just trying to get her to her dream school.
Fingers crossed for tomorrow and then appeal results either end Dec or early Jan.
Cheers -

Yes, you are indeed right, this year COP is down.
When I called them, they say that the cancellation of Sec 3 DSA means that the IP programme that starts form sec 3 is over. The whole thing merges into a 6 year IP programme with no sec 3 DSA. With no Sec 3 DSA, there would be lesser pupils in the IP programme, and hence, they are increasing slots, by 50, I heard.
At 257, my girl got into NJC -
so depressing ... again
