Secondary School Selection 2012
-
Do you think the COP for most schools this year will be raised for 2 reasons:
1. More dragon babies competiting for the same vacancies (+3,000)
2. Integrated Programme and so less classes for O Levels Express stream
Any views from anyone?

Hi Bonnie,
hard to say. It all depends on this year P6 students' selection. It is a question of demand and supply.
The school will not be able to tell you, neither MOE can give you an answer. It is this year's P6 students/ their parents who will decide the COP of the school.
If this year a particular school receives positive publicity, and a large group of parents whose children have done well in PSLE, decide to choose this school as their choice school, there is a very high chance that the COP will go up.
Vice versa, due to certain reasons, a school which no longer be able to attract good quality students to choose that school as their choice school, the COP will drop.Bonnie:

slmkhoo:
But the point of reference when choosing Sec school will be based on those of 2012? Which is potentially showing a higher COP (if what parents speculate come thru)??
No, if cohort size falls but the spread of PSLE scores remains about the same, COPs should fall compared to this year. A school's COP is set by demand and supply. If demand falls, then COPs should fall.MMM:
Curious question.
Due to dragon year, everyone is expecting COP to increase due to higher competition.
What effect will this have on 2013 PSLE kids ???? :scratchhead: We are now alittle concern as does that mean they will now have to face a higher COP target? :faint: -

I don't think they will let a higher COP this year deter them from trying for it next year. In fact, it might even embolden more students who are a few points away to try it bec they expect COP to fall and there's no harm trying.

In any case, there are only so many places in these schools and only so many students who score above a certain score. If the absolute number of students within a certain score range fall, so naturally would the COP of those schools. -
My last choice of 6 schools are:
1.Nanyang
2.Dunman
3.CHIJ st nicholas IP
4.SCGS IP
5.CHIJ st nicholas O level
6.SCGS O level -
I feel you have high chance to get Duman IP.
My guess the COP:
NGS: > 260
SNGS IP: 257-258
SCGS IP: 256-257
DUMAN IP: 254-255
SNGS O: 252
SCGS O: 251

I can 100% assure you that you will not get the first choice, and likely not the second either. My last choice of 6 schools are:

Whats the purpose of this unnecessary remark? The choice have been made and submission have already closed. And why not dhs? I think she is in with a good chance.

And I would have agreed that Dunman might be likely, if TS had not placed it as the second choice.
