I still don't get it. One moment you said \"they mark more 'lenient' than schools and mean to give more marks\", and the next you said \"there's a standard to maintain\". So which is which?rains:
As much as they want to give marks away, you'd agree there's a standard to maintain.
Are you able to substantiate what you've posted?
When I said they have to maintain standards, I meant that they can't compromise on the answers. The items are tested for a reason and answers have to be strictly adhered to. But they are not as strict as most of you would imagine ie. minus marks unnecessarily or for ridiculous reasons. I won't be able to go into the specifics though.
I thought where languages are concerned, they are quite a good indication of how examiners try to help. Haven't students been surprised at their grades? But please don't ask me how or what items/components they are

agree with rains !
I'm quite keen to know where the source of the hearsay comes from. The school didn't reveal the number of students scoring 240 and above. Unless it's a teacher from Nyps who says it, I'm not going to believe it. The school's average t-score is 239. If 87% scored 240 and above, the average should be higher than 239, I thought.bupashu:
hearsay that this year got 40% scoring between 240 to 249
so got 87.7% scoring from 240 or higher ! now which school comes close this this ?
there are also Foundation classes inside Nanyang. -

IP or O Level track? Should be quite safe for the latter.Hi everyone.
My son's aggregate for psle is 244 and we chose St Joseph's Institution for the first choice. Does anyone have any idea what are the chances of him getting into the school?
If he is not able to get into SJI, he will be very upset as he has been aiming for that school since he was in primary 5. -
rains:
Oh yes, many are surprised - surprised why their t-scores are lower than their prelim. or as expected.

A few years back, a couple of students with 249+2 t-scores manage to get into RV for IP and are doing very well thereafter, even better than students with 260+ scores. One of the parents is still in the RV's thread.
DHS and Cedar IP are out of your league. You will need at least 250 to try for any IP school, so given your dd's score of 249+2, her only option for IP is a SAP school and a new SAP school = SNGS IP. Your third and fourth choices are okay. It seems a waste to put AHS ahead of SCGS, which is a very good school and until recently had COPs of low 250s.jtoh:
Hi,
Need some kind advice here. Initially i thought i had it all worked out until my daughter's friends and teacher start advicing my daughter on her choice. My dd score is 249+2 and below is our initial choice:
1) DH IP (Last year COP 256, 5points off)
2) Cedar IP (Last year COP 258, 9Points off as HMT 2 points not applicable)
3) Cedar Express (Last year COP 249)
4) SCGs Express (Last Year COP 248)
5) AH Express (Last year COP 243)
6) TKGs Express (Last year COP 235)
I know DH and Cedar IP is a far shot but we understand that there are 8 more schools offering IP, does that translate to more vacancies? Then again i also recognise that there are more children this year, being the dragon year. Is my choices wise?
My daugther's friends and teachers adviced her to drop her 1st two choices but we would like to try and will it impact her chance of getting into 3th or 4th choice if someone with same score put 3rd or 4th as their first choice. how likely will there be another student with the same score as my ds, quite likely me think?
Really headache.. deadline is tomorrow and still considering. faintz.
Will greatly appreciate any kind advice from people who knows how this thing really works.. Thanks
I am not trying to ask you to place RV as a choice as i guess you might be staying in the eastern side. Just trying to let you know that lower t-scores may well turn out doing better later and there are such examples.
Hi, thanks for your advice -
Kate02491:
Agree with BlueBelt. My son's aggregate is 246 & when I called the school's (SJI) admin with regards to the school's IP not considered as being affiliated , they advise me against trying for IP and claimed that the COP is 250, even though this is the 1st time they offering IP in 2013. So now my son is attempting (like your son, he's very keen to enter SJI) to go into the \"O\" level stream, then attempt for IP from Sec 3 onwards. My son's primary school is so-called \"affiliated\" to SJI but unfortunately, SJI's IP program is not affiliated to his primary school. I thought the meaning of \"affiliation\" is between schools, and not with specific programs. Still wondering why the IP is not considered being affiliated whereas the \"O\" level is, which my son can take advantage of. How can individual programs in a dual-track sec. school be affiliated to a primary school, and not the sec. school itself as a whole. Something very wrong here...The answer from the admin staff is...MOE's guideline is that all IP programs cannot be considered for affiliation purpose. :?: Won't be surprise that come 2013, schools that have many streams such as technical, normal & express, one stream is affiliated & the other stream is not considered to be affiliated. It gives a new meaning to the word \"affiliation\". :xedfingers:Hi everyone.

across all schools in SG -
from P6 entering into Secondary 1:-
IP programme never affliated.
only those with high score(s) get in.
but O level track can be affliated, in some schools.
from end of Sec 2 Express stream trying to seek transfer into Sec 3 IP -
can try.
But note that local Singaporeans will be competing with overseas Asean scholars, for limited Sec 3 IP places. -
TryNotToBeKiasuDad:
This is a guideline set down by MOE. The minimum qualifying aggregate for consideration into IP is 250. And there is NO affiliate bonus points. This was announced 1 or 2 years ago.
