Mummy is your girl better in class?

I think it is ok for the teachers to exercise discipline and order in class. But it depends on the situation, if one is really urgent, teachers sld allow. After all, if there are "accidents", they are the one to clean after them.

But it is not ok for them to decline meeting parents, perhaps in that case, ur mil. Maybe there was a miscomm? Ur MIL perhaps asked during a busy period of time of dismissal? If a prior appt was made, or appt to be made at a later time, they would then be able to accommodate?

Btw which PCF branch is your girl in?

My sons studied in PCF Toa payoh Blk 247. I have nothing but praises for the school environment and teachers. The teachers are very caring, patient and kind. Though there is minimal homework, my Sons are able to read independently and do sums on their own. They don’t have English or Maths enrichment ao I credit it to the teachers who inculcate in them the habit of reading.

I’m seeking around & happen to find out pcf only offers 4hrs study. R these 4hrs sufficient to encompass math science Chinese for the year? Will learning by the kid possible? Is each class child ratio be per mcys guideline.

Hope to learn more about the curriculum & whether learning is passed on to the child?

              Tq v much!!!

                  Han Seo:
Does having difficult spelling list means the kindergarten standard is very high? If that is so, even my grandma can do it.

What is the purpose of giving difficult spelling words when the word has no meaning to the child? The child may be able to memorize it for the test but after that, it is totally forgotten. Worse, the child will come to hate reading and writing and once this thinking sets in, it is difficult to erase.

I would think school readiness goes beyond knowing how to spell x no. of words. What is important is also the ability to listen and take instructions, to get along with others and also to love learning. The emotional and social aspect is often neglected but these are just as important when our child starts formal schooling.
I was reading your post and this is so true and I agree with you. Parents are busy and send their children to PCF kindergartens to let teachers teach their children. It is also important to find a good kindergarten with good teachers who strike a balance between academic and play. Parents have to support teachers by teaching their children at least for 10mins one to one every day. The truth is parents are so busy. Whatever it is, your children's time is too precious to be wasted. Let our children learn something from us everyday. That's why we are in this forum to learn more from other parents to help guide our own children.

                      hugeclaw:
Thanks for your comments! Have surveyed a few PCFs around my area, and my gosh, they've very different syllabus and learning environment! Some teachers can't even communicate well enough to convince me to put my child there and some places are really old and doesn't look 'clean'. So far the best one I've seen is the one at Serangoon North Ave 1, it's one of the premium PCFs (anyway there're only 3 in s'pore). They're more academically inclined compared to the rest. Spelling and tingxie started in K1 and they've extra speech & drama classes from Julia Gabriels....I'm quite happy with the environment too, they're clean and new. Will bring my son there tomorrow to see the place, hope he likes it!

Hi, which Blk pcf are you referring to at Serangoon north ave 1? How did you know it's a premium PCF centre? Btw,K1 level are not encourage to have spelling or 听写。My friend shared that at Blk 141 Kindergarten, the new Malay principal has better leadership than Blk 125 new Chinese principal. On the other hand, the teachers at Blk 125 Kindergarten are more professional and experienced than the teachers at Blk 141 Kindergarten.

Hi mummies, do all the PCFs use the same workbooks? Or each branch has their own workbooks? Thanks in advance 🙂
