sometimes i wonder if it is the bb that wants to latch or mummy who wants to be latch 😉

i didnt think i will go so far (coming to 15mths) cos i only bf my 1st for 7mths (v little latching, mainly bottled expressed bm). when i stopped for other reasons, i didnt feel the struggle inside me... u knw what i mean? haha... like now i love the peace on her face when she bf & the funny noise she makes when she want to latch etc... it is special.

U r right, the look on her face when she has her ‘drug’ and then slowly fall asleep. when this ends eventually, i will feel so sad…something that will never come back…

hi mummies, am a new mum with a 3 month old girl and also a newbie on KSP with this as my first post! i must say i am also absolutely enjoying the breasfeeding experience! it is quite an incredible feeling. i am just wondering if any mum ever finds that their supply can’t keep up with demand as the child grows? or is it a case that supply will always meet demand?

Glad that you enjoy the breastfeeding experience. I breastfed my DS (4 months) and my DD (22 months). In most cases, supply will meet the demand as long as you continue breastfeeding regularly. Of course, you also have to have sufficient nutrients and have enough fluid with a cheerful mind.

                thanks J and J!

i plan to continue for as long as i can and do make sure i eat, drink and rest well enough. but what i am finding is that my girl is able to consume everything from both fully engorged breasts ie. i have just enough supply without surplus so i am just wondering what will happen when she grows older… i cant imagine getting any more engorged!!! or maybe i am wrong?? just wondering whether anyone has ever experienced that?

Hi mummy 1901, no need to worry, as your girl grows up, she will start to have semi solid food, my girl started to have porridge at ard 4-5 month in addition to breast milk. As I mentioned earlier, as long as your girl still latches on your breasts for milk. Her sucking action in fact stimulates the milk production. Without engorged breasts not equal to no milk or not enough milk production. May be you experience the breast engorged in the beginning (I experienced that too), slowly our body will adjust to the feeding schedule and engorgement situation slowly disappears. As I did not have engorgement after 4 months of breastfeeding and I breastfed my girl till 22 months ( after she attended CCC. I would say she was the strongest and healthiest child in the CCC.

thanks for your reassurance, J and J! 🙂 I guess you are right, my gal will be starting semi-solids in about one month so i should not have to worry!

i find it amazing that you are able to breastfeed for so long! it is wonderful! can i ask if you work? wouldnt it be tough to continue for so long if you need to go back to work? also, i have heard terrible stories about painful breastfeeding when the teeth pops out. did you have that problem?

Yes, I was working thoughtout the whole breastfeeding process. My work place was very supportive to me. I had pumped out my milk and put in the fridge in the office and bring back to home when I knocked off to keep in my fridge at home to standby for my DD when I was in office. It's not too tough once you get into a routine.

Well. Yes. I did experience the bite from my DD when she started teething. But I immediately put a finger into her mouth and stopped her and put her out and told her not to do it or she won't be allowed to enjoy her milk any more. Then she stopped that. Of course, she tended to forget and bit for fun occasionally and then I stopped her by pulling her away to warn her again.

I recalled whenever I fetched her from the CCC, she immediately put her head towards my breast to search. That took few months to completely wean off from breastfeeding.

thanks so much for sharing, J vand J. you’ve really encouraged me to persevere with the breastfeeding process! i think 22 mths is a high standard but will try to aim for 12 mths.

i read on mummy.sg forum to also start pumping after every latch-on, even if only 20-40ml comes out, so i’ll try that to increase supply as well.

i’m somewhat concerned about my job though. i need to travel for work so am not sure how to not let that affect my breastfeeding. am hoping that i will hv surplus to store by then!
