Changes in PSLE formats over the past few years

Chicken Rice Mom:
Here's a link to read about the changes for Eng syllabus that will affect 2015 PSLE. It will be implemented next yr, 2013 to the P4. The P5 and P6 will still be under the old syllabus.SAHM_TAN:
None of the changes affect 2013 PSLE.
I am just curious, do you have any more information regarding the changes that will occur in 2015, as my DD will be doing her PSLE then?

The slight changes to the maths syllabus will only affect those going to P1 next yr.
As for mother tongue, will affect students taking PSLE in 2017. It will also affect students taking O/N and A levels at different timeline. Here's the link for more infor

heard that oral will be difficult though... something about talking about marketing a product?? It doesn't sound easy at all!
Oral will help kids score.sunnymumsy:
I think the biggest change to the syllabus will be the components that have always been hard to score in - compo and compre.
Compo has changed to a more authentic syllabus instead of the usual drawings that we are so used to. i think this is quite good! more real-world but at the same time help students to be more creative.
Compo this year, be it pic or continuous wasn't easy. I would say this is challenging as kids have to be creative to think out of the box. Those pic compositions we were so used to are a thing of the past. But again, are our kids ready???
My dd is attending New Syllabus workshops this hols. Lucky she will be trained before she officially starts P4 next year... very kiasu, but what to do? I don't want her to be on the losing end! I will update here when I see what the new curriculum is! -

Finally after weeks of stress, i found a teacher who is familiar with the new syllabus !!! she started teaching my dd last week. Indeed there’s lot of changes.
Comprehension will be changed from narrative text type to expository, instruction and report text type. Questions will vary from inferential, direct to table form.
As for composition, the initial four picture will cease and a change to three picture exposition or narrative writing.
I hope my dd will be well prepared for her school next year !!! -
Hi Karinchung,
Could you kindly share with us this new teacher who is familiar with the new syllabus? My child will be one of the kids in the first unfortunate batch.
Thanks in advance! -

Do u mind to share the comprehension piece? Thank you -
Same thing here. my dd started learning new syllabus in mid-November. I looked at the new syllabus from my dd’s enrichment teacher. Many things have changed.
new Compre format. apart from those changes mentioned by karinchung, students are also required to state whether statements are true or false, which means they must read the passage EVEN more carefully!
For Oral, they have to look at a product and talk about how effective the marketing is, and then express their personal view.
Composition is like free-writing now. 3 pics that are not linked, and students have to find a way to link it into a story. But they are also allowed to concentrate on just one picture.
Even for small things like editing also have changed. They have to say whether it is a grammar or spelling error before giving the correct answer.
Our poor kids… how to manage? dd’s teacher seems to think it is a good change though. She said it promotes thinking out of the box. can’t help much now… leave it in the hands of the taecher and dd.! -
