Same thing here. my dd started learning new syllabus in mid-November. I looked at the new syllabus from my dd’s enrichment teacher. Many things have changed.

new Compre format. apart from those changes mentioned by karinchung, students are also required to state whether statements are true or false, which means they must read the passage EVEN more carefully!

For Oral, they have to look at a product and talk about how effective the marketing is, and then express their personal view.

Composition is like free-writing now. 3 pics that are not linked, and students have to find a way to link it into a story. But they are also allowed to concentrate on just one picture.

Even for small things like editing also have changed. They have to say whether it is a grammar or spelling error before giving the correct answer.

Our poor kids… how to manage? dd’s teacher seems to think it is a good change though. She said it promotes thinking out of the box. can’t help much now… leave it in the hands of the taecher and dd.!

I think the biggest change to the syllabus will be the components that have always been hard to score in - compo and compre.

Compo has changed to a more authentic syllabus instead of the usual drawings that we are so used to. i think this is quite good! more real-world but at the same time help students to be more creative.

      Oral will help kids score.
Compo this year, be it pic or continuous wasn't easy. I would say this is challenging as kids have to be creative to think out of the box. Those pic compositions we were so used to are a thing of the past. But again, are our kids ready???

heard that oral will be difficult though... something about talking about marketing a product?? It doesn't sound easy at all!

My dd is attending New Syllabus workshops this hols. Lucky she will be trained before she officially starts P4 next year... very kiasu, but what to do? I don't want her to be on the losing end! I will update here when I see what the new curriculum is!

I think group tuition is quite effective if its a small group. kids can make friends and interaction helps them grow up and learn how to interact with others.

I always believe that for languages, its better to be in a centre, so the kids can talk in proper english or chinese with each other. The teacher must also be good and strict with the way they get them to chat and talk to each other too.
Agreed... I like grp tuition for my girls bcos they find it more fun. I send my kids to a place where 6 students / class is the max. They enjoy it a lot. My younger girl is funny though.. she loves theier class bcos the worksheets are in full colour. haha. well i take what I can get! As long as she is excited to go, I will send.

Mine here worse...son was stopped from going home. The FT said wanted to talk to him in staff room. At the staff room, the other 2 teachers were also there. What was that supposed to mean? Confronting my son
Who are they to ask what tuition he has.

Yeah, don't understand why teachers need to find out whether our kids have tuition or not.....so they can teach less in school???

I remember at the beginning of school term, the teachers will give parents a letter introducing themselves and then require us to fill up a questionnaire form asking for details about our DCs. Without fail, the question of whether your kid has external tuition class and where will certainly pop out. I always put 'no tuition'. Period.

Why would they need to know if our kids have tuition???
