All About Competitive Swimming

Fouled mouth kids… Recently, I encountered a kid who has anger management issues— he yelled "I will kill you" when someone accidentally encroached into his space with a water bottle. His mannerisms were so angry and violent that the coach had to step in. I wonder whether kids nowadays are more prone to such anger issues… The food they take in?
OT a little… Completed 42.195 last Sunday. Not a good timing but still, completed. -

He is with Coach Wei twice a week. The only thing I dont like about Swimfast is that some kids can be very foul-mouthed. Being rowdy is ok since they are boys but using vulgarities on each other is shocking at that age.
Hi, I got excited when you mention swimfast...lol :rahrah: :nunchuk:swimironkids:
Thanks, appreciate the reply, looks like DS needs to train hard and not look around or daydream. Coach shouts \"ready, go!\". People all plunge in he still dreaming :stupid:
He's been in swimfast for a month and I notice that the kids are very serious but a bit rowdy. And the training is quite tough.
Other than that, the coach is quite good.
Great! There are many good clubs around and I assured you that you re at the right place if he trains seriously his timing shld drop by a few sec within the next few months.
I spoke to a mum during one of the inter school meet few months back and she shared how her son timing couldn't improve further in her pervious club and how happy she was that she make the shift to swimfast within a few months his son timing drop by a few sec to a point that one of school noticed him and offer him a place in that school which's very good in swimming
He must be under coach MS :xedfingers:
By the way head coach David only select the best coaches for his competitive squad :stompfeet:
Kids are kids but when come to training they are serious, esp competing friendly with one another.
Happy training !
I've always taught DS that a true sportsman is also a gentleman - meaning humble in winning, gracious in losing and respectful in demeanor. Vulagarity is a big No-No. I actually scolded 2 kids in the shower because they were so foul-mouthed with younger kids around, ha ha. They must think I'm a mad dad but DS later told me in the car that he is proud that daddy \"taught them to be good\". I was so happy.
I hope he can improve his timing but whatever the case, he is defnitely healthier, stronger and has a more disciplined outlook in life, not to mention the friends that he is beginning to make. And his mild asthma has been cured. We actually started him due to his asthma and advice from doctor to take up swimming. Now he loves it.
I also respect David Lim that he is in the pool personally training the advanced swimmers everyday. And he is so serious.
Thank you for your kind encouragement and response.
Lets stay in touch through this forum.
God bless.
Walk the talk..sounds like STARHUB ..hehe....set the example for your kids and they will model after you...if u smoke and foul mouth in front of them u will likely have them follow you when they grow up...how sad....
I have never used foul language all my life after I became a \"born again \" Christian during my sec school days...ops no religion here.. :imsorry: I'm glad my boys now 17&19 are well behave young man...but going army soon and I'm not worried cos I have laid that solid foundation on them since young :xedfingers: :xedfingers:
Coach Wei is the younger one and once he improve he will probably move up to Coach MEng Seng
By the way I will feed back to David regarding kids using foul language and I'm sure he will look into this :salute:
Yes you're right like I said before David is dam serious in his training and I respect this man alot. I hv never hesitated to recommend anyone who comes to me which club to go.....2 words..swimfast.. :lovesite:
He was not only my mentor who was willing to teach me without keeping some in the pocket while I was his mentee for more than 6mths 4 times a week every morning 530-730am he sit in the dark by the pool 530am sharp waiting for the seniors to arrive..late comers will be punished by chin-up..etc.
He read them the sets and they dive in one by one ....see I say must be focus..memory also put to work..lol...his eyes very sharp also hor..u do other stuff he will spot u out...dun pray,pray..hehe
I remember one incident he yelled so loud at his swimmers that the whole pool became silent becos some of them was trying to be funny :stupid:
That's where to date he has produce so many national star swimmers.
I have watched him Coach and I salute him ...
By the way he's also there every evening where they return for the 2nd training for the advance swimmers.
Having said this..hey dun get me wrong ya, there are other good club around just happen that I personally was with him for more than 6 mths so I share my experience :dancing: :dancing: :dancing: :dancing: -

You can check out their website but I think the ACS barker road one is the most inspiring because all the good coaches are there. I am happy with swimfast except some of the foul-mouthed kids. They give a one week trial period.

But just a couple of points :
1. The concrete steps in the pool area very hard , so can sit until \"backside pitchia\".
So I bought a collapsible fishing chair to sit on and read my newspapers/novel \"macam steven spielberg\". You can see many parents sitting there like a row of fisherman reading and doing stuff on ipad.
2. The training hours are long 1730 hrs stretching until 1815 hrs , then swim until 2000 hrs, so be prepared to adjust your kid's dinner time.
3. The coaches, while strict, are also very nice to the kids. When my DS first joined, he was in shock because the training is so tough, so its an adjustment for him. But the coach was nice and just said to him,\"If you are tired, tell me and rest but if really tired, you can stop, ok\". Now, after one month, he can last the whole session whereas he would struggle at the tail end when he first started. I think maybe the muscles have adjusted themselves and also he made friends and they become \"friendly competitive\".
I would really recommend swimfast although I dont know how the rest are because they either do not respond to me or half-hearted replies. The person who originally answered my phone call in swimfast (not a coach, admin or something) was friendly and responsive, thats how I first got started as I have \"no clue\" who is what.
Incidentally, our family are also Methodists and my son is going to ACJS (same as Joseph Schooling :boogie: ) next year, so its sort of part of the family although, having said that, alot of the kids are also fromdifferent schools. Dont get me wrong, its open for everyone, not just ACS kids. -

1. the swimfast club need some qualification swimming? for example, it only take kids swim fast? Or need kids to be Bronze level pass?
2. The training is once per week? May i know the cost? And only weekdays?
3. The pool is indoor one? In case it is raining, course start as usual?
Thanks a lot! -
I must admit Swimfast aquatic club is good.
Even in the recent inter club compeition at toa payoh where I was the refree there, they took most of the top positions. Keep up the good work Swimfast. -
Yes Swimfast is producing our nation’s young swimmers… they are the top club now!
My girl trains at APSC at Farrer Park. 4 times a week. 6.30-8.30 pm weekdays and 7.00- 9.00 am Sunday.
As the youngest kid, the coach still ‘sayang’ her quite a bit by allowing her to swim 60% of what others do.
Besides swimming, they do jogging, land exercises and play water polo.
Parental support is very important and it really takes a lot of dedication from both the young athlete and the parents…
