Yes, it’s still necessary to do a group 2 subject as this is IBO requirement, unless you do 2 languages from group 1. Nothing to do with MOE bilingual policy.


Most people will do Chinese B or other MT B because frankly, it’s very easy. It’s like primary school level, so minimum input, maximum output. For students who do not want to do language B, they can do ab initio. Not sure if they will offer spanish, but this year, only French, German, Mandarin and Malay ab are offered.

Can students wear sports shoes on daily basis? Any color constraint eg.50% white base with some colors (blue only?)
Am going overseas very soon & understand can buy sports shoes at a better price than SG. So hoping to grab some for Sch next year.

In that case, what’s the motivation to do HMT in yr 3&4 for IP track ? It doesn’t lessen the load in Yr 5 & 6 so I think it is for those who really enjoy the language and wish to pursue it at a higher level earlier and do a language-B from group 2 at Yr 5&6?

Can you tell me how are students selected for this programme? Is it very competitive to get in? What qualities are they looking for in the student :?

there should be a briefing on RSP in the first week of school for the parents on course details and minimum PSLE aggregate score requirement. Students who are keen to take up RSP will need to fill an application form and do a short writeup on why you like to be in this programme. In my son's yr, an interview follows. Up to 25 boys will be chosen for this programme.

Yes, sports shoes can be worn on a daily basis provided they are 70% white & laced. The school doesnt seem to be too strict on the colours of the stripes as far as i can see.

To play safe, I just bought a pair of white based running shoes with blue strips for my younger son.

i guess u r right. Students taking HMT for the IP track should see beyond grades but more for enrichment from Yr 1 - Yr 4. For when it comes to calculation of aggregate points, students taking HMT will lose out a little to those taking normal MT.

My elder son is doing HMT and has sat for the \"o\"-level MT last month. For the past 2 yrs, I kept going back n forth on whether he should drop HMT to lead an \"easier life\" when it comes to scoring for Mother Tongue. But every yr, the Dean of the Chinese Department managed to talk us out... We are just trying to see if this will come to a \"natural death\" come January 2013, when the results for the \"o\"-level MT are released - Reason being, a student who scored B4 or below will be asked to drop HMT in year 4 and re-do \"o\"-level MT.

I am also in a dilemma whether I should let my younger son take HMT next yr in ACSI.

Yeah... Normal chinese is much easier than higher chinese... My higher chinese friends do my close passage they get 9/10, 8/10 whereas they do their HCL close passage they get between 2/10 to 6/10

For my son, it's close to impossible to score >80 for HMT to get that 7 points..

The point-system doesnt seem to favour those taking HMT. Then again, i guess sometimes, it's gd to look beyond short-term reap for enrichment sake.
