Anyone has experience with HME (High Music Elective)? care to share?

      hi,

In NYGH, this is HMP (Higher Music Programme). It is not the MEP but has similar syllabus.
      Read :- http://www.nanyanggirlshigh.moe.edu.sg/cos/o.x?c=/wbn/pagetree&func=view&rid=1095328

      Brief point form info :-
      * To qualify - Grade 3 Music Theory, Grade 5 practical in a musical instrument
      * Selection test - Paper test on music theory + practical audition
      * You will need a first & second instrument.
      * Most girls has a good foundation in piano, a few in violin and thus they will choose these as first instrument
      * Those witout a second instrument will have to start learning in Year 1.
      - They have to choose one of the performing arts as CCA
(Band, String Ensemble, Chinese Orchestra, Guzheng Ensemble, Choir)
      * Exams are in written paper (music theory), practical exams
      * Coursework includes concert journals (needs to attend concert and do analysis on the performance), 1 concert for the cohort
      * Lessons twice a week. One of the lessons replace Home-economics.
      * The programme doesn't replace the regular piano, violin teachers.
      * It is on music education. Students learn music from the different era.

      hope this helps

Thank you so much! Will let DD try out!

        hi,

Appreciate if parents or seniors can share on string ensemble as a cca ? What is the selection criteria? Is it difficult to get in?
Is it one of the more time-consuming cca ?
        Thank you.
        :please:

          hi there

may i know what is the CCA application/selection process like ?
are sec 1 given 3 CCA options to select from a list?
is there a CCA fair for sec 1 to help in CCA selection?
          Thanks for your help.
The sec1 students will get to try out many CCAs during their orientation, especially for the sports. Students who display talents during the try-outs will have their names taken down and given priority.

Later, there will be a CCA exhibition after school. Every CCA will have its booth, even those that did not have try outs.

Some CCA will have interviews, try outs etc to assess the students.

Afterwards, the students can fill a form with about 6 CCA choices, then she will be allocated to one of them. There will be a waiting time as the teachers view all the forms and make choices.

If she is allocated to a CCA that she doesn't like, she can always appeal to her preferred CCA afterwards. Appeals are usually granted but not always, depending on vacancy.

          Hope this helps!

            Hi,

Is there any school bus available in the mornings?
            TIA
There is, but they are usually very early. I know some school buses reach school around 6.50 or earlier. More information will be given when you report to school the first time.

DD is keen in tennis but no experience. She thinks that there will be audition for sports CCA. Is that true? Also, is there a choice of recreational sports or it will have to be competitive?

Just wondering, for parents who fetch DD to school, where is the drop off point? Are we allowed to drive into school? Doubt so …

                Thanks
