Michael Palmer turns up with wife to meet grassroots leaders

Mr Michael Palmer turned up with his wife to meet grassroots leaders on Wednesday night, the same day he resigned over an extramarital affair.
Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean said in a Facebook post that Mr Palmer came with his wife at 9pm.
\"Michael personally apologised to them. He encouraged them to continue the work they are doing to serve the residents of Punggol East. There were tears in many eyes as they wished Michael and his family well,\" he wrote.
Earlier, DPM Teo and Minister of State Teo Ser Luck - who is overseeing the Punggol East constituency after Mr Palmer's resignation - had met the 30 key Punggol East grassroots volunteers. -
yeah. sometimes i feel that we must not put our hopes in MPs but the entire party's objective instead. as a team, they may get things done. as individuals....

While it is sad when civil servants and politicians are revealed as less-than-holy men, we should be happy that these things are coming out into the open and not covered up to avoid embarrassment for the government. At the very least, the government is sticking to its principles that no one is above the law.

Guess the wife had forgiven him?

I have one question. What are these young girls doing having affairs with married men???

hopefully only 2 parties by election and not a 3 corners or 4 corners fight
Will the other parties not join in the fray? :skeptical: It is impossible! If the other opposition parties do not field in their own candidate, implicitly they would be acknowledging Workers Party as their big brother :udaman: and they will slowly fade into oblivion....
Cannot compare this by-election with Hougang's where Workers Party can thumb the others down :nunchuk: and demand for a straight fight as they had won the seat in the first place.
If all the opposition parties field in their best candidates for this by-election, the chances of them winning is almost null. :gloomy: -

I would believe coming out in the open is the \"last resort\" considering that it is likely to be \"impossible to cover\" type of situation. It is probably evaluated to be the \"least damage\" path.
There were past incidents of EMA where there is a lot of covering up.. isn't it? or cases where the MSM never reported.. -

He did, evening time (7+ pm) so I guess some families might have been out for dinner, though I don't think he would visit all the blocks on the same day.
two of my relatives are from that smcBlueBells:
I voted for the party, not one good man.
I was just thinking about the GE and the aftermath last night, wondering why no more flyers from alternative voices once the GE was over. The alternative voices may not have access to the block notice boards, but they sure can still send flyers; but nope, nothing from anyone else except Michael Palmer who actually went on door-to-door visits.
they had never come across that
maybe got miss out

Agreed. There is a big difference between being expelled and having the team come clean up the mess versus coming out in the open and resgining, whatever the reasons behind it were. The topping of it all is, the lady involved is also being identified openly. No need for CSI.I totally agree with u, chief. Although I do not condone extra marital affairs, at least he is courageous and responsible enough to come clean about his affair and apologized publicly instead of like YSL who just chose to run away from his responsibilities. But I think his mistake will now allow the oppositions to have more reasons to criticize the govt, apart from the china bus drivers saga.
ChiefKiasu:
It is unacceptable in our society today to have any EMR, especially for politicians.
Some will say that Palmer only confessed because he will be found out anyway. Or that he may have been forced to do so.
But it is NEVER easy for anyone to publicly confess to wrong-doings.
For that, Michael Palmer should be respected for his courage and honor - not in terms of his scandal - but in how he handled the situation. :salute: -
