Hooray! :imcool: Subjects combination is out! just sharing & food for thoughts! :rahrah: Very interesting β¦.. Looking at my DD's & her buddies' classes (209 to 213) choosing triple science range from 42% to 58%. :rahrah: :grphug: Notice there is another class has 81% opted for triple science, do hope that the ladies or parents made informed choices..
Best wishes to all ladies (year 3) in 2013. :rahrah:
Have fun & work hard! :grphug: -

Can a Yr 1-going-on-to-Yr 2 student answer this? I'd like to know if there is a lot of time spent looking at blackboards or things in the distance vs looking at close things (computer, books etc). I usually under-correct my daughter's glasses (myopia) but am afraid she may have difficulty in the classroom. She has been overseas and doing mainly desk and computer work in the past years, with very little need to look at a blackboard. Any comments?
Hi
I'm going to be in year 2 next yr... Anyway it really depends on the teacher I guess... With the 1 to 1 program thing, everyone gets to bring their MacBook to class but not all the teachers use it regularly...
For example, my el teacher hardly ever lets us use our macs and prefers to write on the whiteboard whereas my geog teacher almost always uses the mac.
But it should be ok I guess
most of the teachers use very large handwriting (at least the ones I know) and my friend who has myopia (idk what degree) can see from near the back of the classroom without specs. And anyway most teachers ask if u can see from where you're sitting after they finish the seating arrangement or whatever. So u can always switch seats.
Usually it's most difficult to see when the teacher is using the projector cos sometimes the quality isn't too good, but u can always move to the front of the classroom if its difficult
Hope that helped

Hello
I'll be a Year 2 student next year as well, and I must say that the usage of the MacBook should be increasing next year as the teachers start to adapt and find more ways to incorporate the MacBooks in classes. Most teachers use the MacBook to a certain extent, but you shouldn't worry about looking at the whiteboard, it's mainly the visualizer, as my batch mate has mentioned because the visualizers are kind of old and dirty and the quality isn't good so everyone is pretty blurred up, and more often than not the teachers can't focus it properly so perhaps your daughter can arrange with the teacher to sit in the front row to get a better view.

kaeshion,
How often do you need to bring the MacBook in year 1? Also, the blurriness from the visualizer sounds like a serious problem, how come the school does not do something about it? -

If there is any problem with the facilities, you have to inform the department(sorry the name of the dept has slipped my mind oh dear)and they should look into the problem.

There was once, in sec 1, when both air-cons in my classroom broke down. Can you imagine the horror? It was burning. Luckily it was solved quite fast. -

Are the renovations for the toilets completed? hopefully, the girls wonβt find it a nightmare anymore.
A reputable sch with toilets not being maintained at all. Where are the cleaners? -

This issue has been brought up before many, many times in school. RGS employs 5 cleaners I think - if my memory serves me well. Somewhere around that number. There is a cleaning schedule put in the toilets. Each toilet is cleaned daily. Personally I think that the fault lies with us - the collective us - because the state of the toilet sometimes should not be such, with or without cleaners. I won't elaborate, because it is pretty awkward, and disgusting. And this problem won't be solved with renovations, because no matter how high-tech or beautiful it is, we can still dirty it pretty easily. Are the renovations for the toilets completed? hopefully, the girls won't find it a nightmare anymore.
