i dont think EMAs have become more acceptable. yet with all the sex scandals in 2012, it makes EMA more noticeable. like anyone and everyone can get involved in an EMA. that is a really scary thought

any political party can have the most stringent criteria in selecting their candidates. all it takes is for that candidate to be weak for that one time...
ONE TIME? More like 'as long as you aren't caught!'

I am furious as I see it happening to people around me, people whom I know. The hurt that the family feels. And here we are, a minister I respect. What do I tell my kids? \"Don't be like this man?\" How do you answer questions like, \"Why is it wrong?\" And how about now the media is saying that it isn't actually 'wrong' because it is not 'illegal' in the first place. So, what, mummy is the wrong one? And the child comes around one day telling me, \"Hey, mom, come on! Everyone else is doing it!!!\"

I think most likely we have become somewhat numb 痲木 to such scandals happening in SG especially for year 2012. That it no longer shock our nerves when one scandal after another got bust in the news like an overwhelming avalanche.
        Now that you mentioned it....

First, YSL.. (kena whacked the hardest).. MSM hitting hard at the man.. no attempt to dig out the woman

        Then, the CNB and SCDF..?

Then.. lastly.. the MP.. with MSM hitting hard at the woman and all attention on her.. while the man's act being promoted as \"honorable\"..

The sequence of events.. seems to be in favor of the MP's exposure (which, could have been inevitable somehow due to evidences in someone's hand? How long was the affair and did it started before YSL?)

        hmm.........

HOW ON EARTH IS IT THAT NOW THAT A PAP MP IS FOUND TO BE ALSO GUILTY OF EMA, WE START TO LOWER OUR MORAL STANDARDS AND START TO THINK EMA IS 'NOT SUCH A BAD THING'??? 新加坡人到底有没有脑的?

Thanks Gooby, for your comments. You have a point there. But that doesn't mean it has become acceptable now, yes?
No, EMA is not acceptable because it betrays trust and hurts. Anything that hurts will be confronted by the conscience.

Yet, most of us also know better that EMA is very common and happening everywhere, not just SG but the whole world. I am very certain that our kids will grow up to face such issues one way or another.

Instead of depending on others (parents, teachers, principals, MPs etc etc etc etc etc) to lead by example and expecting high moral standard, we should admit and be open about the human weakness. Just how easy ANY HUMAN succumb to temptations. This is a sad fact of life.

Guide and prepare our kids about the REAL WORLD, so they are not blinded, and be more ready to make sound decisions and judgement when confronted by similar situations.

As parents, I think this is the least that we can do. So our kids cannot turn back next time to say that my parents never teach me this and that.

            Well said, Gooby.

It is a sad fact of life. And no, we should not depend on others to lead by example, and yes, we should admit and be open about human weakness, just how easy any human succumb to temptations. BUT YES, we should expect and demand high standards and continue to do so unless you think lust is a virtue and not a vice.

I do not even want to comment on how some think lust has got nothing to do with politics, and how some people even bring out examples of famous politicians and their private affairs. The fact is that SINGAPORE was never like the other countries, and I love this aspect of our politics. CLEAN. And I wish it continues to be so. I do not want to compromise in OUR standards just because it has become a COMMON thing, or because every other country is doing it.

Someone has the cheek to say why not ask Michael Palmer to run for election again. Fine - go ask Michael Palmer to run for the by-election and let the residents decide if they want him back as MP. That will set our standards once and for all on HOW ACCEPTABLE WE ARE to EMA from our politicians. In any case, he has already admitted wrong-doing and had done the honorable thing by admitting it, hasn't he? Go invite Michael back and ask if he wants to be the scapegoat. I don't mind. In any case, he isn't my husband, my father, my brother, or my son.

Adultery reflects a character flaw, no matter how competent and capable a man is, if he can be untrue to his soul mate, there is no reason why he can’t be untrue to his co workers and employer.

I beg to differ on the above. All the scandals and sagas had proven that Singapore is no different from other countries. We like to think we are CLEAN cause we are so used to being blinded. With the power of internet and alternative media, more will come.

Human weakness is human weakness, does not mean Singaporeans are a different breed or are immune from it.

Gooby, it doesn't prove that Singapore is no different from other country. It just proves that some men are stupid. And I don't want stupid people in our parliament.

And I don't want stupid people in our parliament.
Like you, I used to feel proud that our SG politics is one of the cleanest in the world with minimum scandal. After GE11 and reading much from the alternative media, I realised I had been a fool and living in the well.

Many wise, successful, highly regarded people look good on the outside. But once their private lifes are out in the open, your jaws drop, your beliefs crashed, your heart sank.

Are our politicians, chiefs, pastors, monks, teachers, principals etc etc, stupid people? No, they are not stupid. They err and succumb to human weaknesses.

All of us have our fair share of varying dark secrets and we err here and there.

A seemingly good person seems trustworthy might just be that his dark secrets are not exposed. As long his dark secrets or private affairs are not exposed, he is regarded with high moral standard. It has been proven again and again.

It is extremely difficult to know a person inside out unless you trail him daily. How to ensure that the politician we elected has high moral standard? Does a person who seems to have high moral standard posses the cut for politics? How to ensure this person never errs in his whole life? Or is it the real fact that his/ her dark secrets has yet to be exposed?

                      How do you define stupidity?

in Taiwan, the 3rd party in an EMA can be sued and fined for causing 'family break-up'and this apply to both male and female. here we are seeing some

folks up against naming the 3rd party because it 'add more pain to her' :yikes: really amazed at what these people are thinking??? :slapshead:
