The Real Reason Why We Send Our Children to Tuition

So that parents can have a good sleep at night

This thing called parenting is not an easy job. As a parent, we have to worry about kids’ health, mental well-being, hygiene, correct diet, discipline and education…and several more factors I could have missed out.
Education is the BIGGEST killer…the other factors we can still be in charge…but with the system being so difficult, even my hubby has given up. From English to Chinese, Science & Math…not one subject is easy. Hubby & I die die refused to believe in tuition for son, believing we can coach ourselves…the main reason is lack of MONEY. Thus, son never had a foundation for English, Math & Science from P1.
The real reason why we send our children to tuition is because not all schools can do a good job to teach them sufficiently to pass exams. -

Agree! In the school, there are too many students and seriously, the teacher wont ans everyone's question if at one time 5-7 students raises their hands up, they need to keep on time with the schedule so impossible to attend to everyone. my hubby & i didn’t believe in tuition, preferring to be hands-on to teach ourselves…this went on till p4. at p5, we were struggling to breathe.
it was really late when we realized son was weak at this crucial psle year. with just one sole breadwinner, it would have been ridiculous to get tuition for all 3 subjects at p1. -

I have bumped into countless centres before I think I have found the right one for my kids which they are both attending now for about 6 months I think.

In the past, other centres' teachers just give homework and don mark one. my kids had piles of worksheets unmarked. and No updates from them. 1 class 10-15 students. Call them, say too busy to talk and will get back to me. In the end, I had to pull them out. All i need is a min or 2 to get updated from them
At least for tis centre, my kid told me there were about 4-5 friends with him in the class only. Their teacher who is the owner of the centre gets them assessments books too, which in this case she explained to me that its because, the books they bought they can practice more on top of the materials that she gives out to them.
They even had games and some riddles ongoing in class to get my kids interested. My kids always come home to test me and had a good laugh. The good thing is also that the teacher calls me once to twice a month to update me on my kids. At least I know whats going on. Sometimes I also call her as I know she is very busy as she is packed from morning till night.
This kind of thing, sometimes heng suay. You get a good tutor, u lucky, u get the wrong one, suay. LOL -
That was a great original post. I’d just add one thing. Not only is it an advantage for children to score well on exams, but they will be ahead in life if they learn how to think and learn that they have the potential within themselves to solve problems, figure things out and make sense out of whatever challenges they face in their careers.
Good grades will open up more options. But the chance to really excel at something comes from the ability to really know what you are doing, to be a problem solver and to be creative. I see so much potential with students in Singapore because there are a lot of really smart kids here with parents who really care for them. If they can just come to realize the full meaning of getting an education as beyond just test scores, these kids can really soar. -
