SBGE=School based gifted education? Something like that i guess.Choco05:
Just asking:
what is SBGE?(My mum&sis have been calling it 傻逼GE--idiotic gifted education? since they saw it in the forum...)
I understand that it is School-based Gifted education that is available in RGS which takes in DSA-GE pupils and possibly mainstream pupils who had a T-score of 269+(I'm mainstream and 270)
Am I allowed in SBGE? Is it difficult to cope with?
The SBGE intake of mainstream changes based on the cohort, but usually it would be 269 and above
I'm a mainstreamer in SBGE as well, and no, i don't think there is a difference between SBGE and non-SBGE. Hence, you will experience the same amount of stress and difficulty across the entire cohort  Whether you cope or not is hard to say. PSLE score becomes nothing in RGS. It is a new start so high performers in PSLE might not do well, but others may excel~ Don't worry about it too much yeah
since the amount of stress and difficulty is the same, why does SBGE exist? is it just an opportunity for you to interact with more pupils that are academically similar to you? :scratchhead:
I recall that sometime last year we were given a talk by Ms May Tan (Head Talent Development), and it's a talk for GEP pupils. Basically there isn't much difference between the classes, I would say, but Ms Tan mentioned something about most of the special program / talent development opportunities being snapped up by GEPers, like 70+% of OM is from GEP, though we are the minority. There may be more GEPers in RA also, come Sec 3. The teachers aren't different, neither is the curriculum, but SBGE classes may be slightly nerdier during class discussions and the like- I'm not sure about other classes, but my class certainly has the reputation for being extremely mugger / smart / overachieving etc
(this is the impression of a bunch of other batchmates, apparently)

Very Kiasu Student:
On the first day of school, there will be a large board in the foyer with everybody's name and classes
:thankyou: :thankyou:also, when will we know our class numbers?
(there was at least for our year) PSLs and ClassICs will have the name lists in advance though, and last year I think the list was posted on the forum for the benefit of curious juniors, but it was taken down for privacy reasons. I don't think it will (and it shouldn't) be posted this year on the forum, though you can ask PSL / SLs you know and they may have the list
Meanwhile, my batch (the to-be Sec 3s) is also waiting for our next-year classes. They should've been finalized quite some time ago but I'm not sure why they don't wanna release it to us till the 31st

Hi Senior,
I would like to know about the new ez-link card. I believe that a new ez-link card will be given, but can i know about when the new card will come? I will be travelling by bus to/from school, so my ez-link card will be used quite often. I would like to know when the new card will come so that I won't top-up too much money so that I will not waste any money when the new card comes and I cannot transfer the money...
Thanks

Thanks a child, I'm so glad to have such enthusiastic seniors
thanks for both Choco and your help :imanangel: wonder if I'll find out both of your identities
do you have any idea on the orientation tee shirt :lightrod:
Actually, I've already been unmasked by a bunch of people on this thread, juniors and seniors alike. I think Choco knows who I am, though I'm not sure who she is yet (I know the class, I think I've seen her, but exactly who I'm not sure haha)
And sorry, I'm not sure about the orientation tee. I'm not sure if they've changed the vendor, or maybe it's just my memory failing me, but my impression is that I got an S-sized Orientation shirt. It fit fine. Also, just a note regarding school approved shirt - it's a different size from our PE shirt, and unless you're more large-sized than normal, get an S. S is big for most people. There are those who want XXXS! :)
Thanks a child, so I guess and hope that the s size will fit just nice, thanks again!
Oh no! I just put an M thinking that it was the same size as the polo t-shirt! :faint:
Me too! Let's get oversized tees together!!!

By the way, how do you know who are the PSL / SLs ?
This will be quite complicated, since RGS changed their selection of SLs just recently: this year.
As of this year, PSLs have a badge while prefects wear ties with their blouse (they won't be wearing the pinafore). Prefects in training (PITs) will wear ties and a badge. However, as of this year, they changed the selection of SLs such that they select SLs first then select again at the end of Secondary 2. Most likely, these SLs will be wearing ties and pinafore, with a badge. It's quite easy to notice them, just look for the tie!

By the way, how do you know who are the PSL / SLs ?
I know quite a few of my friends who are PSLs and the like, but for Orientation you guys will most probably identify them first as the people who're leading your activities and wearing pinafore instead of PE + culottes
PSLs are Peer Support Leaders and there are 5-6 assigned to each class usually, they'll be in-charge of you during orientation as well as organize a weekly PSL sessions to get you all used to the RGS environment
Peer Support Board also runs a series of other events like the Singapore Kindness Movement, and they wear collar pins that say \"PSL\"
SLs are Student Leaders
They're not really one of the 4 official leadership boards like PSB is, but they're a leadership platform for the Year 2s (starting next year - we used to have a different system before)
They wear the tie along with the pinafore at all times, as well as a badge.
Just FYI - the other leadership boards (other than PSB) are Prefectorial Board (PB), Student Congress (SC) and House. PB is in charge of discipline / school spirit / etc, and they don't wear pinafore, but rather blouse + Prefects' skirt (looks something like blouse + culottes, except that the Prefects' skirt is a real skirt) + tie, and a badge. SC wears a badge, and students raise issues with them and they try to gather feedback / implement solutions
House Committee is pretty self-explanatory, and they wear collar pins
Ahaha, I think I'm typing really really really long replies here every time
Edit: cross-posted!
(And they said my message has too many smilies...) -
I heard that in sports CCAs, only those who dsa-ed can participate in competitions during the first year. is there a chance that they will let u participate if u r good enuf?
-
Also, just FYI again - during Orientation at least, the Sec 3 Prefects will be wearing pinafore + tie only also, as their confirmation is after Orientation, if I'm not wrong
They'll start wearing the \"Prefects' uniform\" after that
FYI again (again!) - other leadership roles are like Class committee - Class Chair has quite a lot of duties, lead in a bunch of class events / inter-class competitions, and they get leadership training (for Year 1 Chairs) and wear badges also
CCAs also each have an EXCO, and that's also a platform for leadership development
They wear collar-pins. -

Generally, only DSAs + Sec 2 are in the C div school team. However, there have been some non-DSAs who are in the C div in Sec 1, but they are really really good, have won national titles (or their teams have), and they are the exceptions rather than the rule.
