I like Onsponge assessment book for its comprehensive and systematic coverage of the problem-solving strategies. Can order the book online from its website. For students who are relatively weak in Paper 2, this is a helpful resource. Some of the questions have been picked by school test setters and replicated in CA/SA papers. I’ve also seen my DS’s classmate’s Onsponge tuition worksheets: rigorous, well-written and pitched at a relatively high standard. However, these worksheets can’t be purchased and are only available through their tuition class.

Same here. Both Ds got it through only their tuition classes

what is difference between Paper 1 and 2 ?

As far as i know, Paper 1 is considered to be much easier and paper 2 is much more difficult. Cause paper 2 consists more problem thinking sums and onsponge provides those problems and also solutions to it

Cause paper 2 consists more problem thinking sums and onsponge provides those problems and also solutions to it[/quote]Yup, as Adoncia said, Paper 1 is easier, comprises of MCQ and short questions, to be done in 50 minutes. Paper 2 is a lot more challenging, comprises of a variety of problem sums across various topics; high frequency ones include whole numbers, ratio, percentage, fractions, speed (P6), geometry, area. This paper allows the use of calculators. Test duration is 1 hour 45 minutes. Both papers are tested on the same day, before and after recess.

Most kids, if careful, score pretty well in Paper 1 but the difficulty level in Paper 2 may stumble some, if they have not been exposed to the problem sums and have sufficient practice with the strategies of solving them. If they do not ace Paper 2, no way can score A-stars, as some of the questions are 4 or 5 marks each.

Sometimes, the school teachers' teaching and even the workbooks used in class do not support the difficulty level of the exams :slapshead: Hence we parents have to do quite a bit of home support (assessment books and test papers) or outsource for tuition. 😓

My boy’s teacher may be getting onsponge for them to do in class in p5. Should we get another copy to do at home? Ifnot, can any one recommend a similar type math assessment? Ie notes in front followed by heuristics problem sums. Thanks.

Agree Onsponge Maths assessment books are great. But I thought it should be available in schools’ bookshops because that’s where my kids got them. Their school did not go through it with them though.

Same here! My DS's school used the book in their weekly supplementary class but teacher didn't mark his work and answer key at the back was torn away by his teacher, so we couldn't mark ourselves too (very tedious to work out all the answers ourselves! 😓) Many pages were also left undone. I had to order another one online and DH coached himself by following the detailed answer key.

                        Oh!

Seems like I may have to get a copy for home use just in case! School book shop stocks not in yet.
Hm, maybe I get a second hand one for home use. …
