mummy so kiasu:
Hi, how much is the average pocket money in Sec one?

Would really appreciate input cos i have no idea how much to give my DS (who is a big eater)
thanks in advance

A kid from CHS gets $6-10 for pocket money, excluding transportation (ez link )

$6-10 per day? So much?!
The kids will be having longer hours & having their lunch in school. Exactly, $6 (excluding transportation) is not much. Food in Sec school will cost more & the serving is also bigger. Will need $8-10 if they have their lunch at shopping mall. We will be giving our son $10 a day, including transport allowance.

My godson was telling us about his Home Economics class at Sec 1 this year. He made his family eat fishball noodles almost every day for two weeks because he had to whip up the dish for his school assessment :yikes:

I'm imagining my DS in an apron in his school :nailbite:
I would worry if my son asks me to eat the food he eats...have to support him.

I don't know about all schools...but in son's book list, there is an apron.
Also, there will be 1 term for D&T, home econs and something else.

For history and Geog, I wanted to get assessment to revise...my obsession with assessment books never seems to fade  Asked my cousin who teaches history if I should get one and he said no need. I'm completely lost where sec 1 is concerned...not that I still want to hold son' hand, but should I let go completely? :nailbite:

yup, mine has \"apron\" too! that'd be a sight to behold :rotflmao:

on a more serious note, I looked at the list of subjects -- 8, compared to P6 only 4!
I told my DS -- after going thru' this PSLE u better buck up (yah, something similar to u, Janet-- depsite working hard with him for whole year, yet he didn't do well - just scraped thru to Express stream)
I told him all up to him from now on; i can try to help, but he needs to pay attention in class and work hard to keep on top of things liao.
let's hope these boys grow up and mature a bit, before our hair turn white

my DS's intro booklet says that in Sec1, they will be concentrating purely on algebra. Will go look for that Casco book u mentioned.
thanks

Hi hazel,

We worked so hard with our kids, didn’t we? Well, our boys made it to express stream and that is something I thank God for.
Psle 2012 will be etched in my mind for a long time to come. My son told me somethingthe other day. He said he appreciated my company during the tough year…for supporting him and he loves me. That is a reward no amount of money cannot buy.

From 4 subjects to 8…the same frame of time in a week to study for, excluding CCA. It’s going to be another uphill task…time management PLUS tougher subjects. Hubby told me to let go and let son move on.
Off topic, what will happen to ME when my son is due for NS? 我会很不舍得.

The algebra math is by SAP.

Hi simkhoo,
I saw assessment books for history and geography…chose 2 but put them down after a while.

Yup, uphill task, but I think they (these boys) have to learn to push themselves-- it has been proven (and i hope they realise) that we mummies can only do so much to help.

NS!!! thats in the distant future-- clear the next hurdles first (O’ s, A levels etc) by then they should be big and strong (physically, mentally, spiritually) and then we must find something to do for ourselves, something we’ve put on hold because of the kids
