Hi mummies, what is MA? Is it a monthly assessment for P1 & P2 as there is no examination?

During the orientation on Fri, there was some hoo haa among the parents regarding the allocation of classes vs teachers. It started off when P introduced the class teachers and a \"sharp\" daddy pointed out that Class 1L has special treatment because both assistant level masters (English and chinese) are teaching this class. Is this due to there are some \"so-and-so\" son/daughter in this class? :yikes: I agree it would be fairer to have one of them taking one of the other 11 classes instead. Level masters, as we know, are usually the more experienced and desirable teachers to have. Why put the 2 of them in the same class? :skeptical:

Anyway, I am more concern that some teachers in the school does not speak good English. I am not sure if this is due to PCPS is a SAP school and is more chinese focused? I was quite surprised because my DS's Kindergarten teachers do not speak like this. I really hope they are Maths / Art & Craft or PE teachers and not English teachers. 😓 OMG! I mean this is not the school's fault but MOE - for the failure to recruit the right teachers and give them them the right training. Guess this problem is likely to be across most schools, not just PCPS!

do you see any big shot minister children (son / daughter ) placed inside P1 class 1L, on that orientation day ? That’s why put 2 heavy weight English / Chinese teachers there to teach ?

          Hi Precious2.lee

MA = Modular Assessment - they are like small tests, conducted 4 times a year. Duration of the tests is 1 hour.
There is also another one called AA = Alternative Assessment : for Oral / Show & Tell / Listening Comprehension, also conducted few times a year.
Maths also have AA, basically to test them if they understand certain topics eg length, $ concepts.

Hmm... i also encountered my DS's EL teacher writing some comments (on my DS's compo) that was grammatically wrong...
With the shortage of teachers in the industry, I am afraid we might not be able to expect much..even fr a SAP school.
Sometimes its really luck to meet a good/passionate teacher.
I also can only hope my DS's teacher next year will be a better one.. 🙏

            Hi Mummies,

My dd is in 1K. I also discovered that the form teacher’s English is heavily accented with the chinese- singlish tone. I was very concern when the teacher did a story telling with the class. One child spoke well and with the correct pronunciation of a particular word… She echoed the same word with the wrong pronunciation. I was quite shocked because if she is with the kids everyday for so many hrs, I believe the kids will pick after her. Only solution is to constantly remind them for now…

Yes, i also agree that the teachers are really so-so only. Just take a look at their recent PSLE results for example, the average was just like any neigbourhood school, nothing fantastic. However, what i like abt this sch is, they emphasise on values. Frankly, life is not just abt academics…so what if you smart but a horrible person hated by people, you will not go far. And fyi, level head so what? No big deal, my child also had level head as form T but trust me, there’s no diff at all! There’s no big names in his class from what i know. I am thankful so long we get a teacher who has passion for teaching and love for the children. Last but not least, Happy New Year & all the best to a good and fruitful 2013!

Didn't see any big shot on the orientation day....anyway the entire school hall was too overcrowded! Many of us had to stand as all available seats were taken. Perhaps P applied army style in school too...some white horses in platoon 1L so there is special treatment. If not white horse, perhaps son / daughter of the member of School Management Committe is also possible. On Wed, I will open my eyes wider and see what's so special about this class..

Thank you! 😄 It is good to have MA & AA for P1 and P2 in replacement of the exams. This will enable us to know if the child has a good grasp of the topics and which are the areas that could be improved. Early intervention undeniably helps.

Now I know why P reminded parents that if we are recording the trial English lesson, we are not supposed to share it in any social media. LOL!! :censored:

I will 🙏 & 🙏 that my DS's teachers are reasonably good, have the passion to teach and love the kids.

Can anyone enlighten me why the P3 & P4 have different timings for end-of-school?

                      ie. Mon & Wed : 7.15am-12.25pm
                      Tue & Thur : 7.15am-12.55pm

I only know Wed timing is due to their CCA which starts fr 12:25-1:30.
As for the other days, i m just as clueless. :scratchhead:
Only have the 2013 support structure timetable to rely on now, hopefully my kid will return today with more information.
