No cure to allergic rhinitis but it can be controlled

I’ll visit the shop after the school holiday. I am very new to this sinus thing. Hope to learn from you guys how to handle it. Is Sterimar a prescription drug? Can buy from pharmacist?

My son has allergic rhinitis too. Used to hear him struggling to breath with block nose every night and feel sorry for him. Have to use Symbicort everynight. Though I used the anti mite pillow case, it doesn’t seem to ease. However, as he grows older, the allergy seems to ease a bit. Hopefully it’s the same for your kids.

OMG, Symbicort, another drug name. What's that for? Doc also said maybe, problem will lessen as he gets older when his immunity gets stronger. I was thinking of buying some immunity booster health supplement but have not done any research on ths yet.

Our doc said my ds has allergy rhinitis. I would like to check with you what do you do to minimize allergens in the house. Is there a type of anti dustmite spray for beds? He is so poor thing, nose choke, can't taste his food well and this has been on the whole year. My heart aches seeing him like this. Any other method to help him relief the blockage, please share.

Did u check what he is allergic too? Pollen, dustmite, mold etc? My son is v. allergic to dustmite and slightly to mold. We changed all our mattresses and sofas and his bedroom has been stripped of open shelvings, curtains and rugs.

Beddings and his solitary soft toy are washed in hot water and dried in dryer once to twice a week (so no dust from the roads nearby) depending on his condition. Installed heater in wardrobe to control humidity level. Any clothes left too long at grandparents' homes must be rewashed before wearing or they will trigger symptoms. Room is wet wiped three times a week. Same for play area. Fans need to be cleaned regularly.

Specifically for nose - my kid can't use aircon overnight. Fan must be correctly angled and at appropriate speed. When it is very bad, TCM massage helps to unblock and drain the sinus. Olbas oil at night if needed. One to two hours playing in the morning sun will also clear his nose for the day. I find that he tends to sweat a lot at night right after sleeping, and then get very cold from the middle of the night. Checking on him in the middle of the night and adjusting his beddings and fan to make sure he is neither sweating nor covered in goosebumps has helped.

I was given a steroid nasal spray at one point for my kid. I did not find it very useful.

My neighbour's child is allergic to pollen. They close the windows in certain months and avoid parks.

I read all the things you do for your kid and I must kowtow to you. That is a lot of conscientious effort. I am not sure what he is allergic to but such condition is always blamed on dust. There is only one thing I am very very sure, this happens after he took the flu jab in Jan2012. 1 month after the jab, he got very ill, fever, runny and stuffy nose, cough that lasted 2 months. I was worried sick. Throughout the whole of last year, he started getting flu like symptom more often and usually take more than 2 weeks to clear instead of the usual 1 week. Then it was like sinus all the time, nose always stuffy and runny, and sneezing. Sigh! 2 doc’s insist that it is not the flu jab but my hunch tells me the jab could have lowered his immunity and caused problem and somehow he got into some vicious cycle with sinus problem.

Coincidentally, my girl also took the jab same time and then the whole of 2012 was terrible. She fell sick with fever and other flu like symptom many times and each time the condition was quite bad. She was better before.

My conclusion is, don’t take flu jab.

Could I check something with you when you say your ds or dd has allergic rhinitis? Do they have prolonged cough? When my dd was younger, the ENT said she has enlarged adenoids, so she was quite prone to ear infections. Recently, she has been having cough for more than 2 months. We have been to the GP twice, the pd thrice and the ENT twice. It was only when we went to the ENT that she said my daughter has post nasal drips and allergic rhinitis. She prescribed some anti histamines and also Nasonex. My dd’s cough improved considerably and she only had a little cough in the morning and sometimes in the afternoon. However, today, she started to cough more than she used to again. I am really worried sick as I don’t know what to do anymore.

She had taken about 1.5 months of cough med, plus antibiotic, then the antihistamines and Nasonex. I had tried rubbing garlic oil on her feet, making the honey in pear stew, garlic with honey water, and now am trying to give her as much immunity building supplements as possible. Manuka honey, Vit C, cod liver oil, coconut oil. Then I read about the Herbal Clinic, but I am presently not in Singapore. For the mummies who had gone to the clinic before, can you advice if there is any device or herbal liquids which can be bought and used to treat her at home? If yes, I can try to get someone to help me buy it.

I have started this post in 2009 and now my son is coming 10. His allergic rhinitis has been haunting him almost everyday of his life. Imagine wearing a mask to school early morning, wearing it in church due to air con etc. Whatever forum has suggested, I have almost done it- Zyrtec, nose wash, spray, anti dust mite except going for ENT for surgery. Now I am going to give Herbal Basic a last try, we have taken up the package costing $1800+ which requires daily nose spa for 3.5months. I will post the result after his treatment.

One thing I can vouch for is that my daughter’s allergic rhinitis was cured by Herbal Basic. She is not the serious one as compared to her brother. When she was 4, she fell sick for 3months after going for 1 x swimming lesson. We didn’t think it was rhinitis then. Last year at 6 years old, we let her go through the lessons again, she was sick close to half year. GP initially thought it was bronchitis as she displayed phlegmy cough. She visited 4x of GP and was given 3 sets of anti bodies, it went and came back. The 2nd GP diagnosed that it was sinuses and still it was not cure. It was so serious that she suffered from ear block due to the long haul of her block nose.

We read the forum and gave Herbal Basic a try. Indeed the price is not cheap. Every visit cost us $40. She went there 2x/week and then weekly and now fortnightly. She had close to 12 treatments costing $500. After her first 2 visits, her phlegmy chest was gone. Slowly her ear was block, then her block nose. During the 12 treatment, there are 2 other factors that improve her condition. Both kids played with sea water for 3 full days during our Phuket trip, the Chinese doc says that the salt water has helped their nose. Of course, after 2 weeks or so, symptom came back. Another thing is that she had started P1. From air-con childcare to non aircon school, it has also helped.

The cost is indeed high but if my son was cured when he was 6, this cost will not be enough to cover the frequent trips to doc, buying of Zyrtec, detrimental to health due to anti bodies, misbehavior due to irritation, suffering etc.

I wrote this to share with all mummies and daddies who have to suffer with allergic rhinitis, hope that you and your child need not suffer like mine. Therefore, treat it early before things become worse.

I have sinus…it drives me nuts when I keep sneezing continuously with watery eyes and inside of nose becomes itchy.

nothing much I can do but to pop a zyrtec or clarinase.

I have checked with the physician and asked about your case. She said that it was possible to manage overseas. She had an Indonesian customer who came to Singapore and had their nose spa daily for a week. Then she issue the whole package supply to them and communicate through email.

sinus acting up today

just bought 2 bottles of zyrtec last week...air is rather cold and kids are sniffing.
