Hey, i observed that there are high % of girls who did far better than boys to have below observations - (less the exceptions and the extremes of the bell curve) : can anymore provide insights and statistics to support this discussion?
1) COPs for the new IPs school like MCS /CHIJ St Nick /Cedar have COPs of 255 and above when the Cath High/VS/SJI have COPs of 251& above
2) Girls have 70-80% of the places in top co-ed schools like DHS, National JC, Temasek IP, Anglican....How about Hwa Chong/RV/BPGH/Anderson? any parents to share on girls % there?
3) There are more girls school in the top 20 school while boys schools are just the forever RI, SJI, VS, CHS, ACS
You name the girls schools and most of them are prominently highly sought for and have high COPs;Nanyang Girls, RGS, St Nick, Cedar, MGS, Crescent, SCGS, CHIJ Toa Payoh, St Margaret. Double leh....
4) so PSLE is really not fair if your boy is not strong in languages, esp MT. It is proven most boys are weaker...
Parents of these schools or have observed this issue, please share your thoughts ya.... -
Doesn't matter if more boys or girls coz if our kids is not part of the 'favourable' stats, then the stats means nothing to us.
Having good results is not about some random chance but working hard and working smart.

It doesn't matter whether girls are ahead of boys in PSLE. It's how they do in later years that counts. -
In my dd’s class, the boys all did better than the girls, most went to the first tier sec schools. The teacher mentioned that the boys are much stronger in math n science.

This is somewhat true where girls mature earlier than boys. The girls in DS’ class had worked diligently and out-performed the boys in PSLE (where previously they used to lag behind in school’s results). I saw with my own eyes how the girls cried with joy and hugged each other, while the boys were just so matter-of-factly took a glimpse of result slip before passing over to their parents (DS didn’t even bother with the grades, he was only keen with his T-score). However, that said, when they go the later years, the boys will overtake them.

In DS school, of the top 10 scorers, ~7 are boys.
-
It’s normal that girls outperform boys in primary schools. When it comes to secondary and JC, that’s when the boys and girls are usually on equal footing in terms of results generally.
-
It does not really matter which gender is better at PSLE. That is too much of a generalisation. It is the individual that counts. Maturity may play a role (i.e. the girls) but ultimately it is the determination, motivation and hard work of the individual. The stats ultimately mean nothing to an individual.

Agreed. Girls are better in languages. Whereas, boys are stronger in Maths & Science. My boy got A* for Maths & Science. However, top 5 in his school are boys. They end up in HCI & RI.
